Three for Dale… literally.
Country music superstar Luke Combs and his wife Nicole evidently know how to throw a party. The couple has two boys, Tex and Beau, and on June 19 (last Thursday), the family threw a huge birthday bash for Tex, who was turning three years old. And when a kid who likes race cars turns three, and his father likes old school NASCAR, there’s really only one theme you can go with for the party.
Dale Earnhardt.
There’s no doubting the success of Dale Sr.’s racing career. He was a seven-time Cup Series Champion, and is arguably the most recognizable NASCAR driver ever. He’s still just as present in pop culture as he was during his heyday, and Dale Earnhardt is apparently still reaching the young generation (very young, might I add) through racing-themed third birthday parties.
The Combs family went all out for little Tex’s big day, renting a bouncy house, setting up a winner’s circle area (fit with a podium) and a Dale Sr. ball pit, and fitting in any and every racing/Dale Sr. decoration known to man. Whether it was the food or the table settings, it was racing and Dale Earnhardt anywhere you looked.
And as Nicole explained in her caption, Luke Combs had something to do with the theming of his son’s birthday party:
“Some details from Tex’s birthday. Guess who picked the theme?”
What an absolutely legendary party. I wonder if the Dale Earnhardt Sr. chair is for sale now, by chance? I’ve got a spot in my home where that shrine seat would look perfect.
It’ll be hard to top a Dale Earnhardt Sr. themed party when Luke and Nicole’s other son, Beau’s, third birthday comes around. But all in all, it’s great to see two loving parents go all out to make their son’s birthday party extra special. And it’s definitely not a surprise, since Combs just recently penned an entire album with his two boys in mind.
Fathers & Sons might not be his most commercially successful album (Luke Combs is the first to admit that), but it’s a snapshot of where he is in his life. Being a country music artist is his job, but being a father is what is of the upmost importance to him right now. That’s why he put together the concept album full of Dad songs, as he explained around its release:
“I’ve been putting out music for over 10 years now. Over time, I’ve gotten a pretty good grasp on what I feel like my fans enjoy hearing. It’s crazy to think about changing that, but I’ve always wanted to grow up alongside my fan base. I’ve got two boys under two, so my life is dominated by the thoughts of being there for them. I want to be their dad first and foremost…
I just had to do this project, though, because being a dad to my boys has been the main thing on my mind lately. I don’t want to say this is a side project because it is me and my stuff, but what started as a crazy idea with only a few dad songs turned into me saying we should just record all of them as my next album. I know it’s probably not what everyone expected my next album to be and I get that; I feel the same way in this not truly feeling like my next album. But being a dad is where life has taken me, and this album is a reflection of that in song form.”
