He’s got bigger fish to fry, so to speak.

Recently, pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter just released a new album Man’s Best Friend, which features hits like “Manchild,” and more. And while current pop music isn’t really my thing, I do like Sabrina and enjoy a lot of her music.

But there’s at least one song country fans might really like, which is “Nobody’s Son,” because it sounds eerily familiar to Jon Pardi’s “Heartache Medication” in the chorus and even features similar lyrics.

Pardi’s song was of course the title track to his third studio, which was released in 2019 following the huge success of his 2016 project California Sunrise. It’s a timeless record, and Sabrina has collaborated with Dolly Parton before, and there are times where you can hear a little country twang in her music so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some of that influence in this song too.

Many fans in the comments of this viral video said they noticed it right away, with others commenting that they’ve heard a little country in some of Sabrina’s music before:

@nicolesumerlyn I went days trying to figure out what this new Sabrina song sounded like – AND IT HIT ME #sabrinacarpenter #newalbum #soundslike #jonpardi #manchild ♬ original sound – Nicole Sumerlyn

And during a recent interview with radio host Gabe Mercer, she asked Jon what he thought about the allegations that Sabrina “copied” his song.

Jon was totally unbothered by it, saying he doesn’t even really hear it, aside from the “similar cadence,” and he’s not worried about if it was “copied or not” because “life’s hard enough” and it’s really not a big deal either way:

“I don’t think it’s really on it. I think it’s got a similar cadence, but you know what, I don’t care. Like, life’s hard enough, alright. What’s up, Sabrina.”

Normalize this… not caring about something so minute and moving on with life.

The video has over two million views, and Jon’s nonchalant answer gave me a good laugh because it’s just so true and normal, which feels hard to come by these days in the media. If anything, this has created a ton of exposure for Pardi because Sabrina is a massive international pop star:

@itsgabemercer Does #jonpardi think #sabrinacarpenter copied “Heartache Medication” with her song “Nobody’s Son”?! @Jon Pardi @Sabrina Carpenter ♬ Heartache Medication – Jon Pardi

I can definitely hear the similarities in the cadence, as he pointed out, but you can listen to both songs in-full below and see what you think for yourself.

“Heartache Medication”
