The show must go on…
One of the great things about live music is that you never really know what you’re going to get. When everything goes right it can be a magical moment, but when things go wrong, the crowd ends up getting a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience…which can sometimes be even more entertaining.
Well apparently ’90s country star LeAnn Rimes suffered a unique malfunction on stage during a recent show – but she managed to power through and continue the performance, after filling them in on what she was dealing with.
Rimes took to social media over the weekend to reveal the unexpected issue she had to fight through during her concert on Friday night during a show at the Skagit Valley Casino & Resort in Bow, Washington: Her teeth fell out.
“Last night, I was on stage. In the middle of ‘One Way Ticket,’ I feel something pop in my mouth. And if you’ve been around, you know I’ve had a lot of dental surgeries. I have a bridge in the front, and it fell out in the middle of my song last night – to which I panicked, in the middle, said, ‘Hold on!’ and ran to the side of the stage and put it back in, like popped it back in, and then just went on singing.”
Apparently it wasn’t as simple as just popping them back into place though, and not something she was able to quickly fix on stage, so she had to decide whether to pause the performance or keep going and just level with the crowd:
And then I just had to get real with everybody and tell them exactly what was happening, or else I would have had to walk off stage.”
So for the rest of the show I was literally like this, pushing my teeth in every couple lines, and singing. By the way, I never knew how many ‘f’s’ and ‘th’s’ and ‘sh’s’ that I have in my songs, especially ‘Can’t Fight the Moonlight.’ Like, ‘Can’t Fight the Moonlight,’ they completely fell out again in my mouth. It was the most epic experience ever.”
Now, LeAnn Rimes (who is now married and known as LeAnn Rimes Cibrian) has been around since she burst on the scene as a 14-year old back in 1996. But apparently this was a first in her 25-year career:
“I don’t usually have firsts in my career. That was a first, and hopefully a last. I hope my teeth stay in tonight. We shall see. The front row, get ready for something to fly out. If you catch them, please return them.”
But Rimes didn’t seem too bothered by the whole experience, and got a good laugh out of the whole thing:
“Good times. Just keeping it real out here with you, just as real as I had to last night. And you know what, there wasn’t a f***ing thing I could do about it except either walk off or just hold my teeth in and sing. So I just ran with it.”
And she said the incident could serve as a lesson for other artists who suffer problems onstage:
“The show can go on, even in the midst of sheer, utter embarrassment. You just gotta be real with people.”
No doubt the fans appreciated the honesty – and the unique show they got to experience:
