Could the next Landman antagonist be hidden in plain sight?
Production on the second act of Taylor Sheridan’s drama series – starring Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, among others – has begun. Fans will surely be happy to hear that, since they flocked to the streaming service to watch the first season of Landman. It set a streaming record for Paramount+ last year when more than 14.9 million people tuned in during the show’s first four weeks.
And fans of the show are champing at the bit (yes, it’s “champing” not “chomping) to get the second season rolling, especially after that end-of-season-one cameo from the great Andy Garcia. He’s set up to be the big bad of the second season, with his character “Gallino” being a cartel boss. But Landman co-creator and executive producer Christian Wallace said in a recent interview with there’s another character to keep an eye on in season two.
Tommy Norris’ son Cooper (played by Jacob Lofland).
Wallace said that the work Cooper is doing in the shadows shouldn’t go unnoticed. He encouraged viewers to keep an eye on Lofland’s character, and elaborated on that by providing this let-the-speculation-begin quote:
“He’s just kind of going door-to-door and looking for these small, little parcels of land, these small leases. Even a company the size of MTex — which is a smaller independent compared to the BPs, Exxons, Chevrons of the world — they’re not worried about what he’s doing… yet.”
Great use of the word “yet” there. Quite possibly the best use of the word “yet” I’ve seen in a while.
The Landman co-creator went on to say that Cooper’s youth and expertise gained by being the son of Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy could really help him out in the long run. And he teases that though it might not seem like what Cooper is doing is worth keep track of, it could all come full circle sooner rather than later:
“His honesty, his straight-shooting, his knowledge of the industry — especially for how young he is — that’s paying him dividends right now. It’s always cutthroat in the world of oil and gas exploration. Everyone is always kind of keeping tabs on one another… they’re always looking for the next thing or what these guys might be doing.”
Could that next thing that Christian Wallace is alluding to be… Cooper?
Taylor Sheridan has a knack for character development in his shows, and wouldn’t that be something to see Tommy Norris’ own son command attention from everyone involved in the oil industry? I’d certainly be here for it, and considering the show’s executive producer made a point to kind of tease it… I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the storyline to really keep an eye on in the series’ sophomore season.
Hopefully won’t have to wait very long to see that all play out. The second season is expected to air this coming November. The post Landman Co-Creator Suggests One Unexpected Character Will Play Intricate Role In Season 2 first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
