Treaty Oak Revival released their highly-anticipated third studio album West Texas Degenerate this past Friday, which fans have been waiting two years for following their breakout album Have A Nice Day, which they put out at the end of 2023.
It’s an incredible project, full of that signature rocking sound, Texas twang and pop-punk influence, with features from Muscadine Bloodline, William Clark Green and more, and the tracklist consists of 14 tracks, including the previously released singles “Bad State of Mind” and “Happy Face.”
And today, they released a cinematic new music video for their song “Blue Star,” which features a cameo from fellow Texas rocker Koe Wetzel, who plays the principal at a Texas high school, where he has quite an unconventional way of encourage the football team, the Blue Stars, against the rival Jackalopes:
“Good morning Blue Stars. Tonight’s a big game, okay? We all know that the Jackalopes are no good. They vandalize our school, continuously throw cow s*** on the front of the gymnasium, make silly jokes about me and my ex-wife.
You know, I’m tired of getting beat, so I need you to find it deep down in your soul. Find that school spirit and bring it tonight. Go Blue Stars.”
You might also see some other familiar faces from the Texas music scene in Belmont, Dexter & The Moonrocks, Gannon Fremin, William Clark Green, Mitchell Ferguson, Bo Bundy, Austin Upchurch, and Tades Sanville from Hot Mulligan.
Koe starts it off by swigging something in a flask to give the morning announcements, and I think he was the perfect person for this little role:
This is one of my favorite songs on the album, and it’s fun to see so many great artists in one cool video, which feels very late-90s and pop punk inspired from the concept and look of the video, to of course the song itself.
I’m here for it…
