Koe Wetzel is ready to be a girl dad.
The country music star returned to the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast to talk about his most recent album 9 Lives, what it’s been like gaining mainstream notoriety and working more in Nashville, having such a passionate fan base, new music that’s on the way, going on tour with Hardy this summer, and much more.
Though what everyone wants to hear from Koe as of right now is how he feels about becoming a father. It was back in January when the news broke that Wetzel and his longtime girlfriend Bailey Fisher were expecting.
That portion of Koe’s personal life has shifted his perspective a bit, as he explained to us during our conversation. Wetzel still likes to let loose, but he now realizes that at this point in his career, there are a lot of people that are depending on him:
“It used to be all about the party and just playing music and trying to get enough money to get to the next show. Now, I have so many people that are looking up to me to get paid and to live life.
It’s kind of me stepping back and looking at it and going, ‘Hey, you know, this is a lot bigger than you are now.'”
Now, not only are those who work for him depending on Koe Wetzel… his girlfriend and future baby girl are too.
The “Sweet Dreams” singer attributed a lot of his current emotions to growing up and having the factor of being a father hanging on the horizon. At 33-years-old, Koe Wetzel is becoming a first time father, and he was transparent about how that makes him feel:
“I’m terrified. I’m excited. There are so many emotions right now. I think we’re about a month and a half out, so it’s coming. It’s real.”
It’s only natural for a first time parent to feel those things. As they say, no matter how prepared adults are, no parent is ever actually ready for having a kid. It’s a completely new, unprecedented human experience.
Fortunately, the mother of Koe’s child, Bailey Fisher, has long been connected to the country singer. Wetzel finds comfort in that, and also thinks that the timing of their baby girl’s arrival couldn’t have been any better:
“We met in college. We’ve kind of been on and off for the last 10 years or whatever. I don’t know, it just kind of came back around. It’s a wild story. It’s crazy.
I’m about to be 33 in July, and kind of settling down and stuff, I don’t think it could have happened at a better time. This could have happened back when I was 23 or 24 acting the way I was and not having a dollar to my name.”
Considering that, it truly is a great time for Koe to become a father. Like anyone else, he’s flip-flopped back and forth between being scared and excited about the situation. However, the more that he thinks about his future daughter’s support system, the more excited he gets for her arrival:
“She’s gonna grow up spoiled. She’s got so many people that love her. She’s got a bunch of mean uncles. It’s gonna be a lot of fun. We’re pumped…
I’m excited because it’s gonna be such a big change for me. I’m gonna be a girl dad. That’s what I told Bailey at the time, I said, ‘You know, I don’t think I need to be softened up any.'”
