Impressive, to say the least.
Last night, Koe Wetzel held his Koe Wetzel & Friends: Stronger Together benefit concert, which helped raise over $774,870-and-counting in support of the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund via his own foundation, Koe’s Kids.
The concert was held at Toyota Music Factory, and featured performances from Koe and his fellow Texans including Kolby Cooper, Casey Donahew, Ray Wylie and Lucas Hubbard, Pecos Hurley of Pecos & The Rooftops, Mike Ryan, Shane Smith of Shane Smith & The Saints and Dylan Wheeler.
Koe says it “meant everything” for him to see so many people supporting the cause and help out their neighbors in the Hill Country:
“To see how packed the fans had the Pavilion on a Monday night – that love and support for this cause meant everything. I can’t say thank you enough to my buddies who came out and donated their time, too. Seeing them all get up there and play with the band I’m blessed to stand on stage with every night is something I won’t forget for a long time!”
He added some more colorful language to his thoughts while onstage, saying:
“If this isn’t a testament to what we are, who we are as a state, I don’t know what *** damn Texas means. I’m so f***** proud to be a Texan.”
The night also included a cover of Deana Carter’s “Strawberry Wine” by Dylan Wheeler, as well as a rendition of Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red White & Blue” by Pecos & The Rooftops:
The tragic flood in Kerr County that claimed so many lives has been a horrific tragedy that has affected so many people, but similar to Koe, many famous Texans have stepped up to assist those in need, from George Strait, Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum and more. Miranda always says that music is medicine, and it’s been proven time and again that is very true.
Obviously, no amount of money can ever bring back the lives that were lost or take the pain away from the families who lost everything, but it does provide hope to see those with a platform like the aforementioned artists step up in a time of such great need. By the time it’s all said and done (Miranda and Parker’s benefit hasn’t happened yet), the country music community will have raised an amount in the millions in total, and that’s truly incredible and inspiring.
