The 19-year-old’s trip is thought to be more of a fact-finding mission as opposed to any advanced discussions regarding a move. A transfer is also not a given as Sunderland secured a return to the Premier League after beating Sheffield United 2-1 in the Championship play-off final, a match often dubbed as ‘the richest game in football’. The elder of the Bellingham boys moved to the German giants from Birmingham City for an initial £25million as a 17-year-old. European powerhouse Real Madrid then came calling for Jude in June 2023 in a deal that could rise to £115million and has cemented himself as a key member of Los Blancos’ first team. The teenager registered four goals and three assists from 43 appearances in the Championship this term. Speaking after the play-off final triumph, he cut a defiant figure and took a swipe at pundits who wrote off Sunderland over a perceived lack of experience. “I know people doubted us, and that’s understandable,” Bellingham said. “We lost a few games. People talk about momentum. “But I think we did enough and we showed enough throughout the season for people to at least give us some credit going into the playoffs. And we failed together so many times.” Following the thrilling come-from-behind win, the 19-year-old was greeted with a FaceTime call from his brother, who struggled to hide his delight. “SO F****** PROUD,” Jude said in a caption whilst Jobe smiled and bit onto his winners’ medal in visible glee.
