When it comes to Jason Aldean’s favorite venue to play, the country music star prefers the stadium that only he and one other artist have ever played.
Think about it. Aldean has performed live in concert thousands of times. That means that he’s had the opportunity to play some of the world’s most prestigious venues, like the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. But of all the shows he’s played – whether they were large scale productions or intimate stages – there’s one that stands out to him above the rest.
Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia… also known as the home of the Georgia Bulldogs football team.
As Jason Aldean explained on Marty & McGee, there’s a lot that goes into making the football stadium is all-time favorite venue. For one, he’s always been a fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, so playing out on the same field (on a stage, of course) that some of his football idols battled on was a full-circle moment for him. The other reason? He and Luke Bryan are the only artists that have ever hosted a concert in the venue:
“Sanford Stadium is my favorite show I ever played. There’s just nothing like it, man. As a Georgia fan, a kid that grew up there, and that was the only concert ever to be held in Sanford Stadium to this day.”
He’s right about that.
In 2013, Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan teamed up to headline the concert held at Georgia’s football stadium. Over 66,000 fans were in attendance, proving that the football arena could easily double as a potent concert venue. That being said, Aldean and Bryan’s show there over a decade ago is still the only concert that’s ever taken place at Sanford Stadium.
For some reason, the Georgia athletic department is extremely selective with using the stadium as a concert venue, as Jason Aldean went on to explain:
“They had told everybody else no. (Bruce) Springsteen, REM, you name it. They said, ‘No, not you guys, but you guys can come.’ I was, ‘Like, really? Alright.'”
Honestly, it’s wild that they were on board for a Luke Bryan-Jason Aldean show, proceeded to pull off the concert with great success, and then opted to never do it again.
The good news is that the tide (sorry to accidentally reference Alabama right there Georgia fans) might be turning. Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks – who was one of the minds that helped put together the Aldean-Bryan concert in 2013 – recently stated that the University of Georgia is looking into hosting their second ever concert in the spring of 2026:
“We have to continue to be creative in looking at different ways to drive revenue in more ways than ever before… There’s a lot that goes into it obviously, but that’s something we’re working on. That’s a great event for the city, for the campus, but it’s also an opportunity for us to find another way to drive some revenue.”
More revenue is a huge deal in modern day collegiate athletics (means more money for the “amateur” players).
And could Georgia decided to run it back, so to speak, for their second ever concert? It could be fitting to see if Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan would be willing to return to Sanford Stadium to officially bring the football arena into its concert era. After all, they are the only artists familiar with how to work the Sanford Stadium crowd, and Aldean would likely return in a heartbeat considering it’s his favorite venue he’s ever played.
It’s been a while since their 2013 performance, but I’m sure the country music stars would sign up for more of this:
