The next chapter.
Jake Worthington, the La Porte, Texas native, is turning back the clock, creating country music that embraces and cherishes the traditional stylings of the genre. Jake Worthington is a name that you should be familiar with by now. But if you’re not, here’s some information you need to know.
In 2023, Worthington released his self-titled debut record, which he had been perfecting for the past five years and some change before the release. He cites legends like George Jones, Keith Whitley, and Merle Haggard as some of his musical heroes.
Since the release of Jake Worthington, he has been working non-stop, collaborating with some big names in the business, including Miranda Lambert and Ernest. He’s also been on the road, taking his twangy vocals across the nation with Riley Green and Zach Top. While he was touring with Zach Top, the two often performed a tune or two for the crowd, leaving them blown away.
Worthington also signed to a new label since the release of his debut album, joining the Big Loud Texas team. Miranda Lambert, co-founder of the label, shared the news on stage during the MuttNation Music For Mutts event, held in October 2024.
“I’m a co-founder of a new label called Big Loud Texas, and our sole job is to keep the outlaw movement going and to keep the great stuff from the great state of Texas out there for the people. And as of last week, we got one of my favorite artists of all time on our label. I want y’all to welcome back to the stage my friend Jake Worthington! Did y’all hear him earlier? He is country as a biscuit, and I love it!”
His “Hello Sh***y Day” duet partner was more than thrilled to welcome him to the label, and based on singles we have gotten from Worthington this year, like “Not Like I Used To Be” and “It Ain’t the Whiskey,” it appears that Big Loud Texas is not touching the sound he previously established.
Thank God, because Worthington creates music, stone-cold country classics. And there are many more on the way, following his latest announcement.
Today, Worthington announced his sophomore record will be everywhere on September 12th. In the announcement video, Worthington shares some thoughts about this album along with some footage from the studio.
“This record means to me, it’s a good reminder to fight the good fight. What I mean by that is I’m a strong believer in ‘Do what moves ya,’ make the kind of music that wrecks your world or picks up all the pieces. If it makes you feel that kind of way, and that’s what you need, then don’t let anybody or anything change that. Nobody can make that decision for you.”
That’s what this record is to me. I’m proud to have been able to put a record together, and this is the second one. It’s just the second chapter in what I hope to be a really long book of albums that I get to make throughout the years, and what I leave to my family.”
Worthington is a poetic songwriter who can craft gut-wrenching, sad songs or love songs that will have you swooning while listening to them. His ability to craft these compelling stories is a testament to who he is as a songwriter, but when it comes to delivering those stories, that voice is something else. Like a pair of perfectly broke in jeans, it just feels good. Familiar, like an old friend you haven’t seen in awhile… when Jake sings, it’s how country music should sound.
I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this next chapter of music. Based on this new tune that Worthington began teasing before the album’s announcement, this record should feature solid country gold. Come on with it.
