‘It’s a mad job’ – Chelsea icon to follow Frank Lampard’s lead and become a manager but on one condition

Joe Cole has revealed that he would love to try his hand at management as long as he had control. While he has watched Lampard and co go on into management, Cole has enjoyed analysing football instead. But that could be all about to change. Speaking on Drive, he was asked about becoming a head coach, and said: “Yeah, absolutely. I’m coaching a little bit. I was at Brentford last year with the young lads, just keeping my eye in and coaching. “I’m going to start again soon when things settle down. It’s something I’ve got my eye on at some point. It’s difficult, though. “You don’t want to take a job that you don’t think is right for you at the time. There’s lots of decent jobs, but you want a good job with an opportunity to do well.” Cole then explained that he would like to be at a club where there is little interference. He said: “Listen, I won’t be putting my CV in Real Madrid any time soon. You’ve got to start somewhere and there’s different ways to do it. “It’s such a mad world. I’ve got friends coaching all over and you speak to them, they’re always four or five games away from the sack at any level. “Then there’s interference from the owners and directors of football, all these other things now where so much of what you control on the football pitch isn’t in your hands. Lampard is looking to get Coventry into the Premier LeagueGetty “What job would you take on where they’d want you to do a job but you aren’t really in control of it and you’re going to get judged every Saturday? “It’s a mad job to do. The only thing I’d say is if I did a job, I’d like to have an opportunity and like to think I have full control of tactics and a bit of a relationship with the owner so you have time to work with things. If that was the case, I’d do it tomorrow. But I don’t know if I’m waiting for something that’s not possible.” What happened to Terry? While Lampard is flying at Coventry and has already managed Chelsea and Derby County as well, Terry’s foray into being a head coach is over. The Blues legend detailed the numerous rejections he had from EFL jobs as the reason for deciding to pack it in. Speaking to talkSPORT in May, he said: “When I left Villa and I had to leave for a personal and family reason. “But I came back down, spent some time with my family and then I applied for a couple of jobs, and we’re not talking Premier League or even Championship, it was lower than that. You know, I’d sat in a couple of meetings with a few teams and owners and sat with the Sunderland guys and I thought, ‘This is going really well’, it’s the best one I’ve kind of interviewed for. “We had a little bit of a disagreement on overplaying and why they sacked their manager. They were the worst side in Europe for giving away opportunities. “It was a couple of years ago and they came back and said, ‘You don’t have experience’. “That was the feedback I got from three big interviews. “And I come away from that thinking, I’ve captained Chelsea for 22 years.
