‘I was sceptical’ – New Man United signing’s brother had major doubts over summer transfer

Senne Lammens completed his switch to Manchester United on deadline day but not everyone in his family was enthused about it. What were his brother’s concerns over the transfer? Multiple clubs had shown an interest in the shot-stopper however Tom admits he was sceptical about the move with ‘many players’ having not ‘reached their full potential’ after signing for the club. He even went on to name a better fit for his brother, in Turkish champions Galatasaray. “There’s a lot of quality, you play for trophies there [at Galatasaray], and Senne could perhaps immediately make his mark in the Champions League,” Tom told Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad. “I was initially sceptical about a move to United, because many players there had already succumbed to the pressure and couldn’t reach their full potential. “But ultimately, it was Senne who had to make the decision. United gave him the best feeling. “Partly because Tony Coton, United’s goalkeeping scout, had been following him for almost a year and was very convinced of his qualities. “It would also be great if the club could return to its former glory and if Senne could contribute to that.” Lammens was on the bench for Sunday’s 3-0 Manchester derby defeat against City with United boss Ruben Amorim opting to stick with Altay Bayindir between the posts. With United’s goalkeeping issues laid bare over the last 12 months, Lammens will be confident he can usurp Bayindir and make the No.1 spot his own in the absence of Andre Onana who departed the club on loan last week. I’ll obviously do some research and have a look. “But if you’re buying a new goalkeeper and he’s not ready to come in, that’s a bit of a concern.” Rave reviews from a new teammate But it appears that Rooney need not worry too much after the Belgian was heralded by one of his new Old Trafford teammates. “I think us as players, it’s really important to help settle in new players,” defender Luke Shaw, told Sky Sports.
