If Jay Cutler does the crime, he’s gotta do the time.

The 42-year old former NFL and Vanderbilt quarterback is facing some additional jail time after making a plea deal with prosecutors earlier this week to close out his DUI case. Cutler was arrested last year when he rear-ended a blue GMC around 5 p.m. on October 17, 2024 in Franklin, Tennessee (about 30 minutes south of Nashville).

Police reports indicated the former athlete’s eyes were “bloodshot,” “glassy,” and “dilated,” and that he reeked of alcohol. Cutler then apparently rejected field sobriety tests, so he was taken to a local hospital to have his blood tested before he was booked at the Williamson County Jail. Upon a search of Cutler’s vehicle, authorities also discovered two firearms – one being a loaded handgun.

He was arrested, and later released after paying a $5,000 bond.

Additional details about the incident came out shortly after his arrest, and they pertained to what happened moments before the police were able to arrive on the scene. CBS Chicago first reported – and then police later confirmed – that Jay Cutler initially tried to flee following the accident. When the former quarterback failed to do so, he offered the driver of the GMC that he crashed into $2,000 to not report the accident.

Obviously, that’s not a great look.

Fast forward to August of 2025 (just a couple months shy of one year since the incident) and Cutler has now made a deal with prosecutors to close out that very DUI case. TMZ Sports reported that Cutler stood in a Tennessee courtroom and pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor DUI. By pleading guilty, the Williamson County prosecutors agreed to drop the weapon possession charge that Cutler was also facing from the October 2024 arrest.

The most interesting part of the plea deal is that Jay Cutler agreed to serve time behind bars in order to have his weapon possession charged dismissed. TMZ reported that the former NFL and Vandy quarterback will have to serve four days in jail, and that he’s expected to do so next month.  In addition to the jail time, Cutler was ordered to pay a $350 fine, and was also placed on supervised probation for one year. His Tennessee license was also revoked, and he’s been directed to attend a DUI safety class.

One could certainly call the whole spectacle a fall from grace. Cutler retired from the NFL at 34-years-old, and to be honest with you, things haven’t exactly been peachy for the former first-round pick that was supposed to become a franchise quarterback in the NFL.

Cutler’s very public divorce from Kristin Cavallari was also another headline-making part of the former QB’s life, and the story recently resurged when Cavallari suggested that she didn’t get “a penny” from their divorce. Cutler called that “borderline slander,” and said that his ex-wife’s comments were “completely unnecessary.” Following his high-profile split, and his more recent arrest, I’m sure there’s a part of Jay Cutler that wishes he could just disappear and stop finding himself in the news.

Guess he can do a lot of thinking on how to make that happen in those four days that he has to spend in jail…
