Quite possibly the biggest insurance agent fumble in the history of the world.

There’s really only two career routes for former college football star quarterbacks that don’t pan out in the NFL. They either become a car salesman in their college hometown, or they start selling insurance. Former Georgia Bulldog star Jake Fromm has officially entered into his insurance salesman years.

Before he settled for an insurance job, Fromm did bounce around in the NFL as a backup for a couple of years. He played for (or rather was on) the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants, Washington Commanders, and Detroit Lions. And prior to that, he had a stellar career as a Georgia Bulldog.

Fromm led the Bulldogs to three straight SEC East titles, won an SEC Championship and a Rose Bowl, and even took Georgia to the National Championship game. But that’s the thing about athletic careers… they all come to an end one way or another, and Jake Fromm has finally decided to trade his helmet and pads for a desk at an insurance office.

And think about his name for a second: Jake Fromm. If you had to choose one post-football career path to go down, insurance (specifically with one national insurance company) seems like the perfect fit. So to hear that Jake Fromm officially accepted a position as a client advisor is great… but to hear that it wasn’t with State Farm was tragic:

“Cumberland-based Sterling Seacrest Pritchard announced the hire of Client Advisor Jake Fromm. Fromm will be based in the company’s Atlanta office where he will concentrate on Commercial Property & Casualty Risk Management.”

Jake Fromm – Sterling Seacrest Pritchard just doesn’t have the same ring as Jake Fromm – State Farm.

I’m happy that Fromm has been able to transition into his post-athletic career, and he certainly should do well with cliental in Atlanta, Georgia (who doesn’t want a former Georgia QB advising them?). But the fact that State Farm didn’t reach out years ago about hiring him has to be one of the biggest misses in insurance history.

That’s what social media is currently talking about, and frankly can’t get over:

It was right there State Farm… RIGHT THERE.

“Jake from State Farm” is forever ingrained in the State Farm business model. Letting a real life “Jake Fromm” walk into the warm embrace of another insurance company is a horrific display of management and foresight by State Farm. I guess it’s not too late to swipe Fromm away and throw him in some khakis, though?

Let’s throw it back to the OG Jake from State Farm, shall we?
