Erling Haaland demolishes Wayne Rooney’s Manchester derby feat as Manchester United suffer new low

Erling Haaland continued his monstrous start to the season by leaving Premier League legends in his wake against Manchester United. The Manchester City No.9 scored twice in a 3-0 derby win at the Etihad and shoved his way past two greats in two different categories. Haaland also reached his 50th home Premier League goal in just 50 games, with only Alan Shearer doing so quicker in 47 games. Overall it’s one of Haaland’s best-ever season starts for club and country with 13 goals and two assists overall in eight games. In his match prior to the Manchester derby, he found the back of the net five times in Norway’s 11-1 World Cup qualifying win over Moldova. Haaland previously scored three in three in the Premier League, with a double in a 4-0 win over Wolves and a strike in a 2-1 defeat to Brighton. Despite the season only just starting, the 25-year-old is clearly a step ahead of his teammates who let him down in defeats to Brighton and Tottenham. Overall the picture is bright, though, with Norway in pole position to qualify for their first World Cup since 1998, six points clear at the top of their qualifying group. The defeat left Ruben Amorim with four points from four games, their worst Premier League start since the 1992/93 season under Alex Ferguson. Amorim has been backed in the transfer market for his first full season, filling in gaps in his 3-4-3 formation. However, talkSPORT’s Micky Gray can’t see things getting much better. “We could go on all night about Man United and where it’s gone wrong,” he began “This system just doesn’t work, I think we’re all in agreement.” Amorim’s overall record continues to get worse He then went more specific, saying: “If you’ve got two wingbacks ahead of a back three your wingbacks have to come up and deliver the goods. “I’m not talking about goals I’m talking about assists, and I don’t see it from Patrick Dorgu. “Noussair Mazraoui will give you 100 per cent, but has he got the quality when you get into the opposition’s half? I don’t think he has. “That’s United’s problem and I think they’re going to rely too much on Bryan Mbuemo and Matheus Cunha.” Amorim speaks exclusively to talkSPORT Those doubts were put to Amorim post-match by talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook. “The system is not the problem,” he said. “You are here and you saw Manchester United playing with different systems. Amorim spoke to talkSPORT post-match and showed no signs of letting up on his tactics “Most of them 4-3-3. It was more or less the same result.” When Crook questioned captain Bruno Fernandes playing so deep in midfield, Amorim responded: “I don’t agree. “I don’t agree because in front there’s Amad [Diallo], there’s also Bryan [Mbeumo], you have [Benjamin ] Sesko and then Amad goes to the side. “We could have [Matheus] Cunha, we could have Mason [Mount]. I don’t agree with that.” Amorim was also asked about if the team has improved since the summer, particularly around their defensive vulnerability. “No, I don’t agree but I understand. Everyone has an opinion,” he said. United were lacklustre again in defence and City made the most of itGetty “Sometimes we are a little bit naive in the approach that we have. I saw some games that sometimes we can run faster but they tried. “We tried but they were better than us in transitions. We had transitions, they had transitions. “They defend well and we didn’t defend well but they tried to run.”
