A brand new one from Mrs. Langley.
Ella Langley hit the stage last night in College Station, Texas, for the Live At The Station festival. The lineup was stacked with other artists on the bill, including Zach Top, Corey Kent, Kolby Cooper, Bottomland, and Andy Buckner. It was the perfect country concert to enjoy before the Fightin’ Aggies take on Auburn later today at Kyle Field.
During Ella Langley’s set, the Alabama native had some surprises for the College Station crowd, sharing that they can expect a new single or two before the end of the year, and then performed an unreleased tune.
“There will be maybe one or two off of it this year. This might or might not be the next one… or the first one, I guess. And I figured, why not do it in Texas? It is the title of the song, anyway, this one’s called ‘Choosing Texas.'”
Langley released her debut album, Hungover, last year, but shared with fans that she’s not in a rush to put out her next album. She’s letting Hungover have a moment and is taking her time with her next project, disclosing it will be released at some point in 2026.
The tune “Choosing Texas,” some fans have heard before, as she debuted the song she co-wrote with Miranda Lambert at Banita Creek Hall in Nacogdoches, Texas, at the beginning of the year. Fans were begging for the song then, and that sentiment has not changed as the months have gone by; now we know it’s coming to us sooner rather than later.
The concept of the tune centers around the narrator realizing that the guy she was interested in is more interested in a Texas girl. As she watches the budding love story between this woman and her crush, she drowns herself in Jack to help ease the pain.
“She’s from Texas, I can tell,
I can tell by the way,
He’s two-stepping around the room,
Judging by the smile that on his face,
There’s nothing I can do,
It doesn’t take a crystal ball to see,
A cowboy always finds a way to leave,
Drinking Jack all by myself,
Cuz he’s choosing Texas, I can tell”

The song is sad, but one of those sad songs that makes you so dang happy. It makes sense that Langley continues to perform this acoustic ballad in Texas, given the title, and I know that I’m excited (along with many other fans) to hear the promise that we will be gifted this song by the end of the year.
It’s unclear whether Miranda will be featured on the song as well once Ella cuts it in the studio, but either way, I can see this one becoming a quick fan favorite.
Ella Langley Is Taking Her Time On Her Next Album
Back in July, Ella Langley teased that she’s working on her sophomore album, but fans will have to be patient for it. In an interview with Katie Neal from Katie & Company, Ella said she is taking her time and wants to make sure Hungover has all the time it deserves to be loved before the next project.
She says she has a very clear vision for the next record, and she’s had the title for a while, but she doesn’t want to rush to the next thing just because that’s the trend these days. She’s taking the time to really craft it and make sure it’s perfect:
“I think there might be a little bit of both. I worked so hard on that record, and my team worked so hard on that record and songs. There’s so many special songs on that one. My next record’s not going to be out until 2026, so I really feel like people move on from a record so fast. They’re like, here’s a whole record of 20-something songs, and then we’re gonna give you one single off of it and then move onto the next record.
I think there’s something to be said in taking your time in making the record and taking the time to put all those pieces into place where it can last a long time. Last in a way where fans can keep digging into it and digging into it and finding new songs that they love and finding new little pieces about the record that’s different. I would love to try for another single off of ‘Hungover,’ but there is new music coming out because I’m not gonna go a year and a half without putting anything out. But it’s gonna be kind of a separate little thing.
I’m really just trying to do what feels right to me, not really paying attention to what other artists have done. Also doing that, but still keeping my blinders on in a way where it’s like, this is my art, this is how I want to put it out, this is the way that I think would be best for my artistry. That’s what’s so cool about the team that I have is, everyone really sees the vision with me and they believe in it and execute it.”
Ella added that she will still be releasing new music in terms of songs that didn’t exactly fit for the record, so it’s not like fans will have to go a full year or more without new music from her.
“…This time, I have a concept and I’m writing towards that concept. Kind of still letting songs that need to be written come out, and I’m just kind of picking the best ones out of that. This record, I understand when people are like, I had a child, because that’s how I will feel after this record comes out because it’s all I’ve thought about every day, all day and I can’t wait.
But there are some other songs that I’ve written along the way that don’t fit on this record because I do have such a clear concept musically or conceptually, so there’s a couple of them that are gonna come out. They are definitely a different taste than what the record is, but a side of me that fans know and I have dabbled in before, and it’s exciting.”
It sounds like Langley has an evident vision, and with “Choosing Texas” being a strong preview for this upcoming record, it appears this project is going to be something special.
