He’s home now.

Phil Robertson, the star of Duck Dynasty, founder of Duck Commander and patriarch of the Robertson family, passed away on Sunday after it was revealed earlier this year that he was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

The family announced Phil’s passing in a statement that paid tribute to his life while giving thanks for his deep faith:

“We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord. He reminded us often of the words of Paul, “you do not grieve like those who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.”

Thank you for the love and prays of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life saved by grace, by his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who would listen the Good News of Jesus. We are grateful for his life on earth and will continue the legacy of love for God and love for others until we see him again.”

Phil had also suffered a back injury, and his family had said that he was in rough shape before he passed away, not able to get out and enjoy his land as he always had or spend time in nature.

And his brother, Duck Dynasty co-star “Uncle Si” Robertson admits that he was praying for God to call Phil home.

During an episode of their Unashamed podcast, Si shared memories of his older brother along with nephew Zach Dasher, Zach’s wife Jill, and longtime friend and employee Justin Martin. And Si says that he had been praying for an end to his brother’s suffering:

“I’d been praying, ‘Lord, he’s ready. Call him home.'”

Martin admits that “Phil wasn’t Phil” at the end of his life, and Si agreed:

“His quality of life was not fair. He hurt his back doing something he shouldn’t have been doing. He should have let the younger men…but that’s my brother, he was doing it himself and hurt himself.”

Si also admits that he knew his brother had passed away before he even got the call:

“I knew before the phone call came. When I got up, I just felt totally alone. And that’s not true, I’m never alone…

But I felt total lonely. And then all the way to church, I sit down in the pew and they start preaching, and to quote a movie thing, ‘There’s been a huge, major disturbance in the force.’ Something ain’t right and I don’t feel right.

So then Phillip called and said, ‘Hey, look, Phil passed away at 5:00.’ I said, ‘Well, I already knew it.’ I’d already felt it.”

Of course Phil was known for his strong faith in Jesus Christ, and he knew what he had to look forward to after he passed away. So in the wake of his passing, a clip has gone viral showing Phil’s wishes for after he passed away:

“When I die, don’t cry…

Dance, sing, but don’t cry when I die. When I die, you say, ‘He made it because I watched him walk through the years, hurt back or no back.'”

Amen. Si knew that his brother was at peace with where he was going when he left this earth, and there’s no doubt that’s provided a lot of comfort to the family during this difficult time.
