Well, it’s Thursday afternoon and just as they’d promised, Deftones released a new single titled “My Mind Is A Mountain.” Not only that, but they’ve pulled back the curtain on their forthcoming album Private Music, which is set for release on August 22.

This is the first new music from the Sacramento, California-based band since the release of their 2020 album Ohms. As you can hear in the single below, it sounds like Deftones are going for a heavier, more “wall-of-sound” type of atmosphere if we’re going to base the rest of the album’s 11 tracks on this one.

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding this new record. We’ve known since early 2024 that the band had been in the studio hashing this one out, but they’ve been very good at keeping details close to the chest. With the album now coming out in just a few short weeks, we’re going to learn and hear more about this upcoming release.

This announcement comes not too long after the band was awarded a laundry list of gold and platinum awards from the RIAA. Aside from that, Deftones’ popularity continues to surge, as they continue to sell out shows and garner even more popularity with a younger audience thanks to the advent of apps like TikTok.

It’s also worth noting that Private Music will be the recording debut of the band’s new bassist/vocalist Fred Sabian, who was chosen to take over the spot left vacant by Sergio Vega’s 2022 exit from the band.

Private Music will be released on August 22, but you can preorder your copy today. You can also catch the band live at any of the shows listed below.
