In the latest example of the internet being an absolute cesspool of opportunists and bad actors, Nuclear Blast Records‘ YouTube channel was taken down over the weekend when a buncha crypto scammers hacked the channel.

As you can see in the image posted below, the Nuclear Blast Records channel was live and promoting something called Ripple. It’s very obviously not about a metal band on Nuclear Blast Records and anyone with half a functioning mind should be able to see it’s bullshit, but this is the internet. It’s just one of a million other scams that people could have fallen prey to.

If you try to search for Nuclear Blast on YouTube, you’ll get some Machine Head videos and a whole mess of actual atomic bomb explosions. And while the latter’s certainly interesting to watch for those of us morbidly curious to see what our impending conflict with Iran could become, it’s not the wealth of music videos and songs that resulted in the channel garnering 3.3 million subscribers.

In a statement on social media, Nuclear Blast stated that they were working to address the issue and get everything back online.

“Following an external incident, our YouTube channel is currently offline. We are working directly with YouTube to resolve this as soon as possible. We will keep you updated as soon as the channel is back up and running.”

This isn’t the first time a crypto scam has taken down a major metal outlet. Last year, some crypto jackoffs hacked Metallica’s Twitter account. This sort of thing can have major financial implications. For example, a dude back in 2022 lost $25,000 in another Metallica-related crypto scam that the band had no hand in.

So remember, kids. If an offer looks too good to be true or a trusted page begins acting shady regarding cryptocurrency, don’t get involved. It could end up being costly.
