Sometimes if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all… unless you want to get roasted by the country rocker you were calling out.
Going to a concert is one of the many joys in life. You get to see one of your favorite artists play some of your favorite songs, and you’re surrounded by a collective group of people that are all there for the same reason as you. It’s truly a beautiful thing, and being sent home with your ears ringing is basically a right of passage.
Two country music artists that will always send fans home with a healthy amount of hearing loss is Tanner Usrey and Cody Jinks. Both of them love to turn the volume all the way up and bring the house all the way down, and it’s a wonderful thing to experience.
You should know what you are getting into whenever you go to see Jinks or Usrey in person, but one person evidently did not. Following a recent concert where Tanner Usrey was in support of Cody Jinks, a fan took to X/Twitter to share their thoughts about how the night went. They had one thing in particular about the concert that they didn’t like:
“Tanner Usrey & Cody Jinks, respectfully, your concert tonight is way too loud. Shouldn’t have to yell at the person next to me while I am 500 feet from the stage.”
Just another great example of how you can’t just preface the ridiculous thing you are about to say with “respectfully.”
Because that unhappy fan tagged both Usrey and Jinks, it was evidently brought to the attention of the artists fairly easily. Within an hour after that initial message was posted, Tanner Usrey fired back with this response:
“Sorry, didn’t mean to interrupt your conversation at a CONCERT.”
ROASTED.
And in case you were wondering, when you click on that link that Usrey included in his post, it takes you to the main Wikipedia page describing “Rock and Roll.” If that’s not the best use of a Wikipedia link, I don’t know what is. I’ve never seen one weaponized like that, but I’ll have to remember that one for future, online scuffles.
It’s really no surprise that Usrey utilized his social media presence to reply that to ridiculous concert critique. He recently sat down with us on the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast and explained that he was currently occupied with touring, but was also trying to be more present online:
“I’m kind of focused on the tour right now… and I guess social media. I’m trying to pick up the social media game.”
For better or for worse, social media has become something that goes hand in hand with being an artist. So Tanner Usrey says he’s doing his best to hone in on his “Twitter personality” and present that to the online world, even though it’s something he wishes he didn’t have to dedicate a lot of time to:
“I’m a goofy guy, so I try to be goofy and just… I don’t know, it’s such a weird time for music because it’s all about the content. And I hate it.”
It’s unfortunate that Tanner Usrey hates it, because I love it when he puts country music fans in their place. Here’s to hoping that the “Beautiful Lies” singer continues to a) stay online and b) have spiteful Wikipedia links at the ready to combat ridiculous complaints.
