Carolina Panthers Turn Off Comments On 9/11 Post After Communications Staffer Was Fired For Disgusting Charlie Kirk Comments

Of course, today is 9/11, a day Americans across the country take time to reflect, honor and remember those who lost their lives during the tragic attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, as well as those who died on the plane after crashing into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Tributes and posts have been pouring in on social media, and pretty much every brand, team or other official account you follow has most likely posted something, as they should.
But the Carolina Panthers, who shared a collab post with the Charlotte soccer team the Charlotte FC, had to turn their comments off:
They also turned them off on X, and there’s probably two very good reasons for it.
One being that last year, Panthers fans went OFF on their posts about 9/11, posting unhinged comments about how bad the team was and how it felt similar to the pain of that day. Obviously, that’s an insane thing to say, but fans were down bad, and unfortunately, it doesn’t look good for this season either… so the social media team was smart to get ahead of it this time, because I have a feeling it would’ve looked very similar to last year:

This past Sunday during the season opener, the Panthers lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars with a final score of 26-10, and the team looked way worse than that score reflects. After a somewhat promising end to the last season (which obviously got off to a rough start), it felt like watching a Pop Warner team out there… that even feels like putting it mildly.
But the other reason, and perhaps the more prominent one, is that they fired PR staffer, Charlie Rock, over his disgusting comments regarding the death of Charlie Kirk. Rock shared a picture of Wu Tang Clan’s “Protect Your Neck,” while also sharing “Why are y’all sad? Your man said it was worth it,” in reference to some of Kirk’s grossly mischaracterized commentary on gun control and the Second Amendment.
The Panthers allowed comments on their 9/11 Facebook post, and many of them were regarding Charlie Rock.
Many things in life are obviously bigger than football, so it’s important that these teams show their respects in the highest regard possible, and while the fans being frustrated and angry is extremely fair, there’s a time and a place for commentary on it, and this type of tribute post just isn’t it.The post Carolina Panthers Turn Off Comments On 9/11 Post After Communications Staffer Was Fired For Disgusting Charlie Kirk Comments first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
