Sometimes big cats can spell big trouble.

Regardless of if you call yourself a cat person or not, our feline counterparts can be pretty impressive. You might be reading this and looking over at your pet cat that has been sleeping for five straight hours and disagree, but remember that all cats belong to the same family. Your house cat is just a few genomes away from its ancestors.

With that being said, a lot of the big cats that we know like lions and tigers generally have a tougher life than the traditional domesticated. I would venture to say that a pet cat doesn’t have to worry about life and death as much as, let’s say, this lynx in the video below. Maybe that’s why this wild cat wandering around in Alberta, Canada was so aggressive.

In case you didn’t know, a Canada Lynx can weigh over 20 pounds, and it’s pretty easy to differentiate them from other cats out in the wild. The lynx has a thick coat, tufted ears, and a bearded face, along with many other distinct features (like its longer legs). One of the coolest features of the big cat that typically calls Alaska, Canada and the northern United States home is that their big ol’ paws are covered in fur.

That certainly comes in handy when they are dashing through the snow in the winter time.

And I’ll use that as a beautiful, seamless transition (is it a seamless transition if you have to point it out?) to point your attention to this video below of a lynx trotting its way through a winter wonderland scene (I’m ready for cold weather, I don’t know about you). A man was driving along in his vehicle – which was sounding a predator call – when he spotted the big cat coming his way. Safe to say the predator call was working.

Now lynx aren’t typically aggressive towards humans, unless they feel threatened or they’re provoked. I’d guess the sound of prey in distress coming from the truck was enough to count as “provoking,” because this particular Canada Lynx was feeling frisky. It ran right towards the truck, made eye contact with the man sitting in the driver seat, and proceeded to jump right into the window. That prompted the man inside to shout these two very sophisticated words:

“Holy f***.”

Lynx are known to have the ability to jump around 20 feet in lateral length, and sometimes even further. This big cat showcased its vertical leaping as well, and it certainly wasn’t afraid to take on the truck – even though it ultimately just smacked into the window. But you’ve got to give some credit to the lynx. It sized up the vehicle from a distance, ran it down, quickly calculated an attack, and then hit “full send.”

Did it work out for the Canada Lynx? No, it did not. But did it give the driver the scare of a lifetime, while also provide an incredibly entertaining outdoors video that also exhibited the importance of sturdy windows? Yes, it did.
