Billy Bob Thornton getting fans of Landman hyped up ahead of Season 2.
The first season of Taylor Sheridan’s Landman ended up being a massive hit for Paramount+. The cast, made up of talented actors and actresses like Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, and Demi Moore, shined in the inaugural run of the series, and filming for season two wrapped up not too long ago. The Season 2 premiere has a confirmed release date of Sunday, November 16.
Don’t you love that Taylor Sheridan keeps his shows on a tight, continuous release schedule? While some other shows wait years before their seasons, the mind behind Yellowstone takes pride in releasing one season per year. The second season of Landman is set to release almost exactly a year after the show’s first season (it aired on November 17, 2024).
Fans of the show can only hope that Landman‘s second season delivers as many memorable moments as the first. It seemed like every week, another clip from the show was going viral online. And I imagine that the addition of actors Andy Garcia (who will play a cartel boss) and Sam Elliot (whose role is currently unknown, despite being cast a series regular) can only help elevate the hit series to the next level… and raise the stakes even higher.
When Billy Bob Thornton – who plays oil fixer Tommy Norris in the series – was asked about the show’s second season by Entertainment Weekly, he described it as a “slow burn.” That’s not out of the norm for a Taylor Sheridan show… but it’s weird to categorize it as such, then give another quote that the series’ sophomore run as one that “ramps up” as it goes on.
Here’s the quote from Thornton, where he explains that because the world and the characters were fleshed out in the first season, the second season is able to dive a bit deeper:
“Now that the audience knows all the characters, Taylor was able to really dive into the relationships more. Last season, we had to explain what this business was all about and who the people are.
This season, he was able to really focus in the first few episodes on the family dynamic and the business dynamic. But this one really ramps up as it goes on, and there’s more and more intensity.”
Guess only time will tell how Season 2 is both a “slow burn” and a story that “really ramps up.”
Maybe the slow burn could be referring to the character development? Maybe Thornton’s Tommy Norris will have to slowly-but-surely morph into more of a corporate figure than he was in Season 1? Regardless, I’m not going to question the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan… he simply doesn’t miss.
That being said, who really knows what’s in store for MTex Oil, Tommy Norris, and the other colorful characters of Landman. The hit Taylor Sheridan show is set to return in just a couple of months on Paramount+.
