The Baltimore Ravens are doing it right.
On one hand, it seems as though they roll out a competitive teams that contends for a Super Bowl almost every year. Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry and the rest of the Ravens are once again poised to make a deep run, and they play an entertaining style of football that certainly keeps Baltimore fans happy.
On the other hand, the Baltimore Ravens seemingly noticed an easy way to enhance the fan experience at games, and announced earlier today that they’d be making some positive changes to concession pricing so that they’re “doing that right” as well.
Food prices at sporting events and concerts have seen a horrendous uptick in the past decade. If you plan on going to a stadium or arena near you, you’ve usually got to prepare to fork over $20 for a chicken strip basket, and good luck finding a beer for under $12. Things have truly gotten out of hand.
Some people refer to it as the “Stadium Tax.” That just means that once they’ve got you inside the stadium, they can pretty much charge whatever they want. Want a beer? Or a burger? Outside the walls of the event, you could probably get a beer and a burger for $10 or $15 bucks. Inside? You practically have to take out a loan if you want to eat and drink.
That’s pretty much how it is at any venue to you go to… though it won’t apply to M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland this year.
The Baltimore Ravens have unveiled what they’re calling their “Flock Friendly Fare” value menu, and it’s simply beautiful. Is it really just what concessions should cost in the first place? Yes, it is. But considering almost every other stadium (besides the Atlanta Falcons) is charging an arm and a leg for food and beverages, these prices are refreshing to see:
-BBQ Chicken Sandwich: $4.99
-Nachos: $4.49
-Hot Dog: $3.49
-Pretzel: $1.99
-French Fries: $3.49
-Peanuts: $3.49
-Blackbird Chips: $2.49
-Popcorn: $1.99
-12 oz Beer: $4.99
-24 oz Soda: $3.99
-20 oz Water: $3.49
Pretzel for less than 2 dollars? A beer that’s under 5 bucks? Now this is what I’m talking about.
We’ve seen a trend recently of stadiums and arenas lowering their concession prices, probably in hopes of driving up ticket sales. Wonder why people aren’t attending as many sporting events and concerts? It’s because you typically have to go into debt if you want to eat or drink anything while you are there.
Now, organizations like the Baltimore Ravens are realizing dropping concession prices could very easily act as that extra incentive to go see a live event, and Maryland’s professional football team is straight up bragging that their new prices could allow for a family of four to eat dinner at the game for less than $40:
“Feed a family of four for less than $10/person with the most competitive gameday concessions pricing in the region!”

Hey every other NFL team… see this? Be more like the Ravens and stop gouging your fanbase.
I’m incredibly hopeful that this is another step in the right direction towards reasonable concession pricing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to a game and basically fasted because the prices of the food and drinks are absurdly high. This certainly feels like a win-win for everyone involved, and football fans on social media are already commending the Ravens for their “Flock Friendly” menu:
Now this is how it should be at sporting events. $9 for water is insane

More sports teams should do this

This is an incredibly important idea.
