Arsenal were involved in some bizarre scenes on Wednesday afternoon as they lifted a trophy 15 minutes after losing a penalty shootout. The Gunners were facing AC Milan in Singapore as part of their pre-season tour in Asia. Arsenal have claimed the first piece of silverware of their season Mikel Arteta‘s men beat the Italian giants 1-0 in the match, but as with a lot of pre-season spectacles, there was a penalty shootout immediately after. Arsenal lost 6-5 with Martin Odegaard, Reiss Nelson, Jakub Kiwior and Marli Ellis Salmon all missing. Salmon was the final Gunners player to miss from the penalty spot before Christian Comotto converted the winner. That led to the strange sight of seeing Arsenal lift some silverware just a few moments after losing on penalties. But it was a good runout for Arteta’s men. Arsenal managed to get minutes into 22 players, including new signings Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga and 15-year-old Max Dowman. Bukayo Saka scored the only goal of the game eight minutes into the second half. Next up for Arsenal is a tie against Newcastle United at the weekend at the Singapore International Stadium. Bukayo is one of them. “We have pushed him through the summer to catch up on a lot of things that he had to to give himself the best chance to exploit his qualities better and more highlighted and with more impact every time physically he’s at the highest level. “Very happy with all the kids. I think they are able to play at that level at 15 years old in my opinion because of the environment and culture that is within the team. “When somebody makes you feel so comfortable and so confident straightaway you can go and do it. “At least it gives you the best chance and then you have to have the qualities this kid has to deliver against opposition like this.”
