Taylor Sheridan evidently pulls storylines for his fictional TV shows right out of real life.
Many have wondered where the Yellowstone creator, writer and director and the mind behind so many other great series and movies gets his ideas. How can Taylor Sheridan continue to pump quality shows out of his assembly line at such a fast pace? Where is he getting the ideas for such in-depth character development?
Well… for one specific thing, we know the answer to that question is his wife Nicole.
Ali Larter, who plays Angela in Sheridan’s hit Paramount+ show Landman, recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to reflect on her character’s arc in season one, and look ahead to her continued story – and the show as a whole – in season two. The former Varsity Blues and Legally Blonde star said that playing Angela in Landman – and sharing plenty of screen time with Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy – has been a very rewarding process:
“This character is a full rainbow. I have so many parts of myself that I can put into her. She wants to be flashy in a bikini and be all hot, and then you see her crumbling trying to keep her family together. You see her battling and feeling like she’s getting older.
Then you see her finding her calling and going to this old folks home and giving these people hope to live and bringing joy into their life. It’s very multi-dimensional, and that’s why it doesn’t bother me. You can do all of it. I just go to the material and find it within my work.”
That old folks home portion that she alluded to there is when Angela, in a way, finds her calling season 1 when she starts helping at a retirement home. Larter was asked how that storyline worked its way into the show and fight within her character, and the actress said that Sheridan pulled that straight from the life of his own wife Nicole:
“A lot of his stories are inspired by his wife. She does that. She goes to the homes here and has these incredible relationships. She plays games and sets up a bar for them. It’s the way it should be. They’re in their prime and they get shoved into these awful retirement homes where nobody loves or cares for them.
Nicole (Sheridan) has really opened up this world of the way that we can see senior citizens, how we can treat them and have fun with them, and how little effort it takes to bring so much happiness to someone’s life.”
How cool is that?
Nicole Sheridan is exactly right in making an effort to care for and love the older generation. And it’s wonderful to see that Taylor Sheridan was able to work that inspiration into a show that could spark a chain reaction of viewers also helping out at retirement homes and assisted living facilities.
As for when fans can expect the story of Ali Larter’s Angela to continue, the actress provided this update with how far along Landman is in the season two shooting process, which will also featured the great Sam Elliott:
“We’re midway through our second season, which is also five months.”
Can’t wait to see where season two takes Angela and the rest of the Landman cast when the hit show returns in November:
