A Bout of Strep Throat Forced King Diamond to Cancel Four Shows

An unfortunate bit of news has come out for fans planning to attend the next four shows of King Diamond‘s upcoming European tour, as an unexpected strep throat diagnosis for the big man himself has forced the cancellation of those gigs.

News of the cancellations was made public on King Diamond’s social media pages. In the following statement, he said he hoped to recover faster than his doctors suggested.

“Hello everyone, King Diamond here. As you may know by now, I was diagnosed with Strep Throat this past Saturday, and told to rest a certain amount of Days.

“As I have had experience with Strep Throat before, I believe that with the medicine prescribed by the doctor and my own knowledge, I can be back singing before the estimated day.

“By cutting my recuperation from suggested 14 days to 6, which I feel might work in this case, we could be back performing this Thursday, July 10 in Athens, Greece.

“Send me a Devil’s prayer or two and I shall do my utmost for this to happen.”

Two of the four canceled shows have already passed, with King Diamond’s July 5 show at Rockmaraton festival in Dunaújváros, Hungary and the July 6 show at Arena Wien in Vienna, Austria already having taken place over the weekend. Tomorrow’s and Wednesday’s shows at Arenale Romane in Bucharest, Romania and at Arena Sofia in Sofia, Bulgaria, respectively, are also off the books. Fingers crossed he can get back to good health in time.

King Diamond’s summer European Tour kicked off back on July 4 at the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden. Barring any other health related issues, the tour should come to an end on August 8 in Helsinki, Finland at Hellsinki Metal Fest. You can find the remaining dates below.
