“1,800 Miles From Music Row” – Colter Wall Teases Brand New Song Taking Aim At Nashville

We are so back.

It’s been over two years since we’ve gotten new music from Colter Wall. Since Little Songs’ release in 2023, the Canadian singer/songwriter has been radio silent in terms of releases. This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, given that Wall is famous for living off the grid, ranching and generally keeping to himself in between shows and album releases.

Fans (myself included) have been pining for new music, and it looks like we’re finally one step closer.

If you recall, back in December, the “Caroline” singer told Dale Brisby in a rare media appearance on the Rodeo Time podcast that new music was coming out this summer.

“I don’t know when it will be out. Probably… I would guess, usually they want to shoot for or put that stuff out around July or August. Hopefully this (2025) year we’ll get it mixed and out into the world. New record, all original songs (with) one cover on there.”

Now that it’s nearing the end of August, it seems like that’s clearly been delayed. However, it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise given that 2025 has seemingly been a trying year for Wall, highlighted by the fact that he cancelled his February and March shows to October due to “personal reasons” regarding his mental and physical health.

Back on Wednesday night, Wall sent the internet into a frenzy after taking to Instagram to share a photo of a Private Q multichannel headphone system at RCA Studio A in Nashville backed by some twangy, Western-inspired instrumentals in the background, signaling that music was finally on its way.

He decided to up the ante (and anticipation) this morning, taking to Instagram to share an extended clip of a brand new song off of the upcoming album, seemingly titled “1,800 Miles From Music Row.” Spoiler alert, it’s a damn good one.

At this point, it’s fairly well-established that Wall isn’t a huge fan of the Nashville machine. From his outright refusal to engage with most forms of media to his dedication to traditional Country-Western instrumentation, he’s always viewed himself as an outsider in the genre. Couple that with tracks such as “Motorcycle,” where he declared Music Row (and Nashville as an extension) as dead, Wall has never held back his disdain for the current state of the industry.

Judging by the teaser shared of “1,800 Miles From Music Row,” his thoughts on the industry haven’t changed much. In an incredibly biting chorus, he points out that Nashville is filled with nothing more than flashing lights and rhinestone clothes, with the music being completely devoid of any fiddle and steel:

“I don’t know what you think you’ve been toldIf I ever was for sale, I never soldIt’s short on flashing lights and rhinestone clothes1,800 miles from Music RowIt’s Tyson songs on the fiddle and guitarAnd the pedal steel man drives a real mean barYou won’t hear it on your radioIt’s 1,800 miles from Music Row”

Pointing out what a lot of us have noticed as Nashville becomes more and more commercialized by the day, Wall really hits the nail on the head here. And while 1,800 miles from Nashville is where Colter Wall calls home in Saskatchewan, Canada, you don’t have to go nearly that far to hear good music. The talent flying out of West Virginia, Kentucky and Texas over the past decade has been downright impressive, but nevertheless, it’s a damn good lyric. It also serves as a reminder that authentic music such as Wall’s is going to last a hell of a lot longer than whatever flash-in-the-pan trend is currently being pumped up and down Broadway.

As of now, the song has no release date.
