State fair season is upon us. While most states hold their local county fairs before kids go back to school, many of the nation’s largest state fairs are just now getting underway, meaning that fair season is FAR from over.
The Texas State Fair, the largest fair in the United States, spans an impressive 24 days, filled with rides, livestock shows, attractions, college football (home of the Cotton Bowl’s Red River Showdown between the University of Texas and Oklahoma University), and great music.
The Texas State Fair is also renowned for its exceptional food offerings. Some of this year’s Big Tex awards went to wagyu bacon cheeseburger deviled egg sliders, brisket-stuffed pretzels, and fried deli tacos. While these exotic food choices make the Texas State Fair one of a kind, let’s be honest… the best fair food is the classics: corn dogs, funnel cake, and big ole turkey legs.
And if there is one woman who knows how to do a fair right, it’s the one and only Reba McEntire.
Back in 2020, Reba went viral for telling CMT that her fair must have was. Reba, an Oklahoma native (who also hosts some impressive fairs in Oklahoma City and Tulsa each fall), knows how to get down at a fair and told the outlet that when she has one person dedicated to securing corn dogs.
“Everybody knows when I pull up to a state fair, we got to have a designator corn dog getter.”
Next level genius.
@cmt We’ll be your designated corn dog getter, Reba! #reba #corndogs #statefair ♬ Reba Loves Corn Dogs – CMT
Reba’s corn dog philosophy is spot on.
There should be a friend in the group who is dedicated to scoping out the best and largest corn dogs at the fair and relaying this information to the group. The ideal candidate for a “designator corn dog getter” would be someone who might not love riding fair rides, has the patience to stand in line, and knows what fixings need to come back with the corn dogs.
Reba’s go-to fixings are ketchup and mustard mixed together.
“I do like a corn dog. I like to mix it with mustard and ketchup. Yeah, not only just one, got to mix it ’cause it’s real good… I love corn dogs… I’m a cheap date.”
Shared with Variety earlier this year.
I mean, everybody loves a corn dog. But let the record reflect that Reba does not condone non-meat corndogs. In 2021, she called a veggie dog “un-American.”
I mean, after Joey Chesnut’s fiasco signing a deal with a meat alternative corn dog brand, leading him to have to take a hiatus from competing in the Nathan’s 4th of July hot dog eating contests, I’d agree.
God bless Reba and her love for corn dogs.
