Why Garth Brooks Insisted That Trisha Yearwood Work On Their 20th Anniversary

Nothing like working on the night of your 20th wedding anniversary.

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are a country music power couple. Even though they’ve had an interesting 2025 with Garth’s ongoing sexual assault lawsuit, the pair has stuck together, and reports suggest that their marriage has been “completely unaffected” by all of the allegations.

That checks out… because according to Trisha, their marriage can also withstand not blocking off their 20th wedding anniversary.

The “She’s In Love With The Boy” singer sat down with Ross Mathews and Valerie Bertinelli (on The Drew Barrymore Show) earlier this month and told them how she ended up working on the night of their 20th anniversary. Brooks and Yearwood got married on December 10, 2005, so two decades of marriage later, there was much to celebrate.

Yearwood released her Christmas album, Christmastime, and was touring during the holiday season to help share the new music. She said that she was planning on taking December 10 off, but Garth insisted that she work on their anniversary:

“I’m actually working on our anniversary. I actually was not going to, and I have a Christmas album out and we’re touring. And I was going to block around it, and Garth said, ‘No, I think the best thing would be to… get to see you in your element, doing what you do for our anniversary.’ So, I don’t know what else we’ll do. We’re going to be together. That’s our big thing, is just be, you know, we like to be where the other one is.”

That’s certainly interesting.

But like I said earlier, they must be rather confident in their relationship to willingly put work before a big anniversary. It sounds like Trisha could have worked around the date, but Brooks suggested that she go ahead and go for it on their monumental marriage milestone.

Judging by this post from Trisha Yearwood, I’d say it wasn’t that big of a deal to them:

“The very best part of the last 20 years has been you. Merry Christmas, Valentine. I love you.”

I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention another portion of that interview, where Trisha accidentally (?) compared their marriage to her relationship she had with a pet dog.

The country music singer explained that, before her relationship with Garth Brooks, her longest time tied to someone or something else was a four-legged friend that lived to be 14 years old:

“My longest relationship before Garth was a dog I had that lived to be 14, and I was very proud of that relationship. So, we have surpassed that, which is a pretty big milestone for me. We were friends for a long time before we were a couple, and so, we knew everything about each other before we ever went on a date.

When you marry your best friend, it’s, I mean, you learn what’s important. And I was not really good at staying when things were tough. I was really good at bailing, and this is not an option because I’m with the love of my life. So, we just figure it out.”
