T-Pain, the Auto-Tune king who once somehow made “mansion” rhyme with “Wisconsin,” is now producing dubstep music.

The Grammy-winning artist this week shared a video on his social media from a studio livestream in which he unveiled several original dubstep tracks he produced. But it’s the caption that’s sending the electronic music community into a collective frenzy: “Dubstep career soft launch?”

The video showcased T-Pain playing a pair of heavy-hitting demos for fast-rising dubstep producer Viperactive and Brian Bayati, who serves as executive producer for Shaquille O’Neal’s musical endeavors. The trio appeared to be fine-tuning several blistering beats that mark a dramatic departure from T-Pain’s smooth, vocoder-drenched anthems that once ruled the radio.
