There are few people in this world where you can take a single look at them and know exactly what they do for work. Sergeant Major Jody Armentrout is one of those people. Also, he (sort of) shares a last name with the coolest character in Breaking Bad so you just know this man is a serious bada**.

Amentrout has served in the United States Marines for over 20-years and recently used his training to stop a passenger from trying to open an exit door mid-flight while flying on All Nippon Airways Flight 114 from Tokyo to Houston.

Take a look at this specimen of a man… he was born to be a Marine and take down bad guys:

United States Marine Jody Armentrout

According to NBC News, Armentrout was sitting in an exit row when he noticed a man take his backpack to the bathroom. He then exited the bathroom and went into another. Then he did it again. This is obviously weird behavior and Armentrout locked his eyes on the suspicious man.

“He came out of that one and began pacing up and down the aisle, so that just threw my radar on.”

The passenger then eyed up the emergency exit door in Armentrout’s row and made a move towards it. The Marine stood up and blocked the man, who then made a mad dash through the galley, towards the exit door on the opposite side. Immediately, Armentrout sprang into action.

“He grabbed a strap around the door, pulled it off, and about that time is when I took him and slammed him, put him on the ground. And then there was an older gentleman sitting on that side that woke up, and he got up and kind of helped me.”

The flight attendants then brought Armentrout zip ties and he cuffed the man’s hands to a seat. Talk about embarrassing…

The flight diverted to Seattle so the man could be handed over to the authorities.

“His eyes — you could definitely tell there was something going on… I just knew he was up to something crazy, and at the end of the day, I was willing to take the risk of him saying ‘I’m not doing anything’ and then just them making him go sit back down than me allowing him to do anything that’s going to put anybody at risk.”

The Sgt. Maj. also gave a stark warning to the public about why he remains so vigilant, even on a commercial flight:

“I want to make sure everybody understands what time we are in in this world nowadays and that they need to be aware of their surroundings all the time”

Let’s all be thankful that Jody Armentrout was there to save the day. Had that passenger been able to open a door, who knows what could have happened. It’s certainly possible that not only he but some innocent bystanders could have been sucked out of the door and swept away to certain death.

Big shoutout to Sgt. Maj. Jody Armentrout, a patriot, a Marine, and in this case, a certifiable hero. The post United States Marine With Over 20 Years Of Service Tackles Passenger Trying To Open Exit Door On Flight To Houston first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
