There was a moment during last night’s Game Awards that you might have missed if you weren’t paying attention or being a massive nerd like yours truly. It involved a trailer for a new Dungeons & Dragons-based video game and an insanely popular prog metal act.
About partway through last night’s event, a world premiere teaser trailer was played for the newly announced game Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons that had Tool’s “46 & 2” from their 1996 album Aenima. Described as an “original third person single-player action-adventure game,” Warlock is being developed by Invoke Studios. The game features the story of Kaatri, a veteran warrior played by Tricia Helfer who’s made a pact with some otherworldly force to get special powers to fight the darkness.
The trailer, which you can check out below, had some pretty trippy visuals, but don’t be fooled. That’s a cinematic trailer so there’s no gameplay footage.
Still, it was completely unexpected to hear Tool during the Game Awards.
