C’mon now WNBA… Caitlin Clark being voted the 9th best guard in the league by her peers? Not player… guard. That’s utterly absurd.
To put things simply, Caitlin Clark is women’s basketball. She completely and single-handedly elevated the game, and brought more eyes to women’s sports than any other female athlete… ever. Clark is now in her second season with the WNBA’s Indiana Fever, and she continues to be a star at the pro level, but many will always remember her as an Iowa Hawkeye.
That is until she’s able to further supplant herself as one of the WNBA’s all-time greats. And I think that will happen sooner rather than later. Her game seamlessly translated to the pro level, and she’s continued to enforce her talent and deep-range shooting in the WNBA. Fans love watching the talented guard do her thing, and she’s brought unprecedented attention not only to women’s basketball… but women’s sports as a whole.
With the WNBA’s All-Star game coming up on July 19, the voting to determine who gets All-Star honors has already commenced. In no surprise at all, Caitlin Clark absolutely ran away with the most votes when it came to fan voting. In fact, she set a new record for WNBA All-Star voting by receiving 1.29 million votes:
For reference, here is the top fan-vote getter in the WNBA for the past three years, and how many votes they received:
-2023: A’ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces) – 95,860 votes
-2024: Caitlin Clark (Indiana Fever) – 700,735 votes
-2025: Caitlin Clark (Indiana Fever) – 1,293,526 votes
Pretty wild, eh?
Though what’s more unbelievable is that, despite getting an overwhelming amount of All-Star votes from fans, and the media to some extent, Clark’s fellow WNBA players voted her as the 9th best guard in the league. Just to be clear, that means that other WNBA players across the league believe there are eight players at the guard position better than Caitlin Clark:
BLASPHEMY.
Even the media ranked Caitlin Clark as the 3rd best guard in the league, and sure the New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu and the Atlanta Dream’s Allisha Gray are talented and deserving to be high up on the list of best guards in the WNBA… but both over Caitlin Clark? I’m just not sure…
All this to say that the WNBA continues to be unaccepting of the star that quite literally changed professional women’s basketball – and women’s sports in general – for the better. Without Caitlin Clark, the WNBA would still be struggling to bring in revenue and put up respectable TV numbers. Hell, Clark could start her own league and sports fans would follow her to that over the WNBA. She could put the league out of business if she really wanted to.
Clark’s opponents on the court struggle to understand that if it weren’t for Caitlin Clark, the league would be a lot worse off. And I get there’s a competitive component to it all, but when you are supposed to cast a vote for the best guard in the league, you should put your feelings aside and give Caitlin Clark the respect she deserves. It’s nothing but pure jealousy and I think Dick Vitale – a certifiable basketball knower – summed it all up quite beautifully:
“Absolutely PURE JEALOUSY that WNBA players voted Caitlin Clark the 9th best guard. Some day they will realize what she has done for ALL of the players in the WNBA. Chartered planes, increase in salaries, sold out crowds, improved TV Ratings…”
A rising tide lifts all ships… and CC is the tide. Hell, she’s the whole damn ocean…The post The WNBA Utterly Embarrasses Itself Voting Caitlin Clark The 9th Best Guard In The League first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
