There are countless underrated bands out there, but The Last Revel is at the very top of that list.
Forming in Minneapolis, MN in the early 2010s, The Last Revel has spent countless hours honing their craft and perfecting their sound over the years, so much so that burnout from life on the road and a handful of other factors led to the band breaking up in 2019. While they all seemed convinced The Last Revel would never get back together, their music continued to reach new fans through streaming services, and the road started calling again.
With a new outlook on both life and music, the band reunited in 2021 and released their fifth studio album Dovetail in 2023. While that album was amazing in its own right, their latest record seems to be the culmination of all of those years of hard work and their reinvigorated passion for making music and sharing it with the world.
Now, poised for a breakthrough with the release of their brand new record Gone for Good, the four piece bluegrass outfit has tapped into a string-fueled sonic sensation that few bands can achieve, and it seems to me that the sky is the limit for this group moving forward.
Titled band’s brand new 10-track record is a sonic masterpiece that flows seamlessly between high energy fastgrass tracks and slower, thought provoking balladry. With lyricism that generally revolves around the trials and tribulations of life on the road as a touring musician, diving into love, loss, chasing dreams, and perseverance, among other subjects, Gone for Good features some of the band’s best songwriting to date. And as is commonplace within their impressive catalog, the powerful vocal delivery and breathtaking harmonies are the icing on the cake.
Give The Last Revel’s Gone for Good a listen below, and see for yourself why this album may be the catalyst for breakthrough they deserve. Here’s a few early favorites:
“Solid Gone”
“Static”
“Jealousy”
“Until Death”
“Porcelain”
While their sound is completely unique, it’s nearly impossible not to draw some comparisons between The Last Revel and Trampled by Turtles, another indie-bluegrass outfit form the state of Minnesota. So it makes perfect sense that The Last Revel opted to work with Trampled by Turtles’ frontman Dave Simonett to produce the record.
If you like what you’ve heard here, I highly recommend getting out there to see The Last Revel play these songs live. They put on a high energy show, and there are plenty of opportunities on the calendar to check them out.
