Terry Bradshaw? The country music singer?
Throughout his lifetime, Terry Bradshaw has worn many hats… literally. During his playing days with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he donned a helmet and was a Super Bowl champion. Once he moved onto his broadcasting career, Terry has been known to wear flat caps as he breaks down games.
And during his off time, you just might see him singing country music while wearing a cowboy hat.
Believe it or not, Terry Bradshaw once even released his own country music album in 1976 that was titled I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry. The project itself climbed into the Top 100 Country Albums chart, and his cover of Hank Williams’ song (that the album is named after) peaked at 17 on the Billboard Country Music chart.
That’s pretty impressive, especially considering he released the album right in the midst of his playing career. Bradshaw played 14 seasons in the NFL from 1970 to 1983, and was just casually putting out solid, respectable country music during that time as well. The more you know, right?
And all of these years later, Terry Bradshaw is still very much a fan of country music. He might lean towards the classics more than contemporary, but he never shies away from shining a spotlight on the genre. The latest example of that came at the music festival known as Bourbon & Beyond, which is taking place in Louisville, Kentucky this weekend.
The former football player and current FOX Sports NFL analyst was there on the first day of the festival, and graced the Fork & Flask stage (a stage dedicated to culinary entertainment) for a show called “Family Cookin’ with Terry Bradshaw & Chef Noah Hester.” Hester is Bradshaw’s son-in-law, and together, the two prepared a meal from a family recipe while also crafting a cocktail.
It’s not normally the sphere that we get to see Terry Bradshaw in, which would have made for a cool opportunity to see that all happen live. For those that didn’t get to attend Bourbon & Beyond, no need to worry. Bradshaw did something that stole the show while he was on the Fork & Flask stage, and it’s now being shared online for the rest of us to enjoy.
Considering Terry’s country music background, and the fact that he’s covered a Hank Williams song before, it should come as no surprise (maybe a little bit of a surprise, though?) that he started to belt out that Hank Williams classic “Cold Cold Heart” while he was amused the masses.
Check it out:
Terry has some PIPES. And he can multitask. Random things to know, but good to know nonetheless.
And from what I could tell, it was impromptu a cappella, which is arguably one of the hardest things a singer can do. I’d say that Terry Bradshaw pulled it off… but he’d probably be best sticking to his day job of breaking down the NFL. Not saying that he doesn’t have what it takes to be a country artist, by any means.
I’m just saying if I’m going to listen to “Cold Cold Heart,” I’d probably rather cue up the version by Hank Williams.
