Born of Osiris

Through Shadows (Sumerian Records)

We’ve been big fans of BoO for a while now and after reading our recent interview with the band, the hype for this one’s been pretty damn high. I imagine a good amount of these songs will kick ass live, which if you haven’t seen this band in person, you really ought to. Definitely put this one on and crank it up.

Bring Me The Horizon

Lo-Files (Sony)

If you’ve ever tuned in to the YouTube page ‘lofi hip hop radio beats to relax/study to’, then you already have an idea of what this is. Bring Me The Horizon dropped this one on us out of nowhere, so we didn’t anticipate hearing a lo-fi version of “Shadow Moses” anytime soon. Still, it’s a real interesting reinvention of songs you may have heard over and over again.

Death Rattle

The Moral Chokehold (M-Theory Audio)

This is pretty solid groove metal, through and through. Having been around since 2009, this band’s made a name for themselves for being able to meld groove, melody, and aggression into the backbone of their sound. The album includes a vocal contribution from Soilwork and The Night Flight Orchestra’s own Bjorn “Speed” Strid.

Impureza

Alcázares (Season of Mist)

Ever heard of “flamenco death metal” before? If you haven’t, this new release is exactly that. Think death metal meets the incredibly intricate guitar playing of flamenco. This thing is full of everything you’d expect from a death metal release, only with crazy acoustic guitar flourishes and a classical orchestra to back everything up.

Laguna

The Ghost of Katrina (Frontiers Music Srl)

This is about as old school hard rock/heavy metal as you can get, really. This Mexican act really knows how to write a kick ass metal tune. It’s strangely got an 80s feel to it that really works. I mean, I can absolutely see myself speeding down the highway with this on full blast.
