Another benefit concert for a great cause.
At this point, I am sure that we’ve all seen the devastating news about how South-central Texas was ravaged by flash flooding over the 4th of July weekend, and over 130 people have already been confirmed deceased. Camp Mystic – a Christian girls’ camp located in Texas Hill Country – is currently grieving the unfathomable loss of 27 young campers and counselors. Dozens of people are still unaccounted for, and we won’t know the official toll and extent of the damage for weeks (if not months). What we do know is that the region currently needs all the help it can get to recover and rebuild.
Just as we have seen with other natural disasters, the country music world stepped up in a big way, and fast. Right after the floods, Texas legend Robert Earl Keen took to social media with a heavy heart to share his thoughts and announced that he was planning a benefit show to help his home state.
“I will be working on a benefit to support the community, and more details to follow as soon as we know them. In the meantime, please support those in need via the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country. That’s the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.”
Keen also told fans that he will share a direct link in his post for followers and for those who feel called to donate. He, too, is donating to the fund.
“I will be donating 100% of the merchandise sales from our current tour to the community foundation as well. My sincere prayers and condolences to all those involved in this tragedy. And please stay tuned as I work in partnership with the community to continue to support those in need.”
Robert Earl Keen kept his early promise of putting on a benefit show, and he ensured it was one that folks would not forget.
On August 28th at Whitewater Amphitheater outside of New Braunfels, Texas, Keen will hit the stage with special guest Tyler Childers, alongside a special trio set from Miranda Lambert, Jon Randall, and Jack Ingram, plus Cross Canadian Ragweed, Randy Rogers, Ryan Bingham, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and more to be announced.
“This is a star-studded lineup with music starting in the mid-afternoon and lasting far into the night.”
Said Keen. The event is presented by Buc-ee’s, and their founder, Beaver Aplin, echoed his sentiments, saying:
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to support the relief efforts of so many for our beloved Hill Country. The tragedies are beyond belief. Buc-ee’s teaming with Robert Earl Keen and friends for this benefit concert just seemed like the right thing to do. When we learned 100 percent of our commitment goes to the Community Foundation of the Hill Country, we were all in.”
This Friday, July 18th, at noon Central, reserved seating tickets and general admission tickets will go on sale, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country. This is not a show you’ll want to miss.
As some might notice, there is considerable overlap between artists performing at Applause for the Cause and those performing at their benefit concerts or participating in shows organized by other artists.
The Josh Abbott Band announced their “Deep in the Heart Benefit Concert,“ which will feature Carly Pearce, Casey Donahew, Kaitlin Butts, The Panhandlers, and Wade Bowen. Another benefit was announced, hosted by Texas artist Pat Green, officially titled Pat Green and Friends: Texas Flood Relief Livestream. The singer-songwriter will live-stream a special, non-ticketed benefit from Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, this Wednesday, July 16th, at 6:30 pm CST. There will be no audience in attendance, although the event will be streamed for free on YouTube, featuring a lineup of very talented artists like Miranda Lambert, Jon Pardi, Dierks Bentley, Corey Kent, Casey Donahew, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Josh Abbott, Ryan Bingham, Eli Young Band, Flatland Cavalry, and more.
The country music community is going above and beyond to lift up Texas. As Miranda Lambert said, “Texans help Texans,” and that’s precisely what we are witnessing right now.
