With the transfer window officially open and top clubs scrambling to secure elite talent, one winger—available on a free—has emerged as a serious opportunity. Four clubs are in the race, but only one Premier League side has made an offer… and they’re in pole position—if they act now, according to the latest reports.
According to transfer insider Buchi Laba, Leroy Sané has received four formal contract offers as his deal with Bayern Munich expires at the end of this month. Among the suitors, Fenerbahçe have reportedly tabled the most lucrative offer, while Arsenal, though keen, have offered the lowest wages. The report suggests that if Arsenal raise their offer, Sané would likely choose them.
London seems the players preference, though, so Arsenal will hope that despite a modest wage offer, he still opts for them.
Sané’s current club, Bayern Munich, are still hoping for a contract extension, but that offer is expected to be rejected. Meanwhile, Galatasaray’s approach is described as “very complicated,” likely due to financial or structural obstacles. The window is open, and a decision is imminent.
From an Arsenal perspective, this is a golden opportunity. Sané is available on a free transfer, and his ability to operate on both wings adds vital flexibility to Mikel Arteta’s front line. Despite past concerns over his injury record, the German international missed very little football last season, appearing in 30 Bundesliga matches (17 starts), and netting 11 goals. His post-surgery form and lack of recurrence suggest he’s physically past his issues.
Still, some questions remain. Is he, like Raheem Sterling, past his peak? Possibly. But there’s a strong argument that Sané would arrive in better shape than Sterling did—and crucially, his big-game experience and maturity could make him a valuable presence in the dressing room.
Importantly, Sané cannot be the only major attacking addition if Arsenal are to challenge for top honours. A starting-calibre left winger and a top striker must also be signed this summer. On the left, top targets include Nico Williams and Anthony Gordon, two explosive wide men who could transform Arsenal’s left flank.
Whether or not Sané joins, Arsenal need to be bold and decisive in the market. With the transfer window now open, fans will be hoping that Andrea Berta and the recruitment team deliver the firepower Arteta’s side need.
