Arsenal transfers are taking shape as they look to have made major progress on their striker signing.

Arsenal have made significant progress in their pursuit of Viktor Gyökeres, with a move for the Swedish striker now gathering pace. According to the reliable Sami Mokbel – BBC, the Gunners have made headway in recent days as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.

Talks for long-time target Benjamin Šeško now appear to have hit an impasse, forcing Arsenal to reassess their striker strategy. With the deal for Šeško stalling, attention has shifted more seriously towards Gyökeres — a player who has quickly climbed the club’s shortlist under the influence of new transfer chief Andrea Berta.

Berta, who joined Arsenal earlier this year, is understood to be a strong advocate of Gyökeres, believing the 27-year-old could make an instant impact in the Premier League. Prior to Berta’s arrival, Gyökeres was not among the Gunners’ top targets, but that stance has shifted significantly in recent weeks.

Gyokeres is valued at €75million on transfermarkt and you would expect him to cost around that figure.

Gyökeres enjoyed a prolific season with Sporting Lisbon, but tensions have reportedly emerged between the striker and his club over his valuation. Crucially, he is understood to be very keen on joining Arsenal, which could further ease negotiations if a fee can be agreed.

With Berta’s backing and the player’s interest clear, Arsenal may now be positioning themselves to make a decisive move, one that could define their summer transfer business.

Gyokeres scored 63 goals in all competitions for club and country last season. Whilst the standard of the league can be questioned and the volume of penalties, it’s hard to argue against his arrival when you consider no Arsenal player managed double figures in the Premier League last season.

There seems to be more desire from Gyokeres than Sesko to push for a move to happen and that may well end up being the deciding factor when Arsenal’s striker signing arrives.
