Not the news he was expecting.

Of course the assassination of Charlie Kirk isn’t something that anybody was expecting, because I think we all like to hope that we’re better as a society than murdering somebody for their political views.

Unfortunately that’s exactly what happened to Kirk, the prominent conservative media personality and founder of Turning Point USA during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. The shooter was recently identified as 22-year old Tyler Robinson of Utah, and during a press conference on his arrest Utah Governor Spencer Cox revealed that the assassin had been radicalized in recent years and made comments about hating Kirk to his family.

I think we all probably assumed that Kirk had passed away when we saw the gruesome videos that were circulating on social media, but it was a couple of hours after the shooting that the news was confirmed by none other than President Donald Trump on Truth Social:

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”

And this morning on Fox News, President Trump joined Fox & Friends to pay tribute to his friend and one of his strongest supporters while recalling the moment that he found out about the terrible assassination:

“When I heard it, I was in the midst of building a great – you know, for 150 years they’ve wanted a ballroom at the White House… And so I was with the architects that were designing it. It’s going to be incredible.

And they came in and they said, ‘Charlie Kirk is dead.’ I didn’t know what they meant, I said, ‘What do you mean dead?’

‘Charlie Kirk was shot.’ They thought he was dead because it was so horrific. And I said, ‘Dead?’ I just told these people, ‘Get out, just go. This is the worst thing.’

This was so bad for our country.”

In the aftermath of the shooting, President Trump ordered all flags flown at half staff through Sunday, and last night Vice President JD Vance flew to Utah to escort Charlie’s body back to his home state of Arizona, alongside Charlie’s wife.

Meanwhile, reactions to the horrific shooting have been pouring in from all corners of America, including the country music world. Last night during his show in Michigan, Jason Aldean spoke about the death of his friend and dedicated his song “Try That In A Small Town” to his memory:

“I couldn’t get through the night without addressing some that happened yesterday. As you guys well know, an amazing person by the name of Charlie Kirk was murdered yesterday in Utah. This was a guy that I knew for a few years. I had a chance to meet him on quite a few occasions, talk to him. One of the best people ever. I mean, this is not the guy you go after, is what I’m trying to say.

And it’s a weird country that we live in when you start taking people out because you disagree with their opinions. That’s not what we’re about here. I remember when we put this song out, people like Charlie Kirk were some of the first ones to come up and go, ‘That’s what it’s about.’ This country coming together, calling out the bullsh*t when we see it, trying to get everything back on track, this guy wanted nothing more than what was best for all of us and our kids and everything moving forward.

It’s been a rough couple of days, but he was one of the guys that really stood up for this song when it came out when a lot of people were trying to make this song about something that it wasn’t. People like Charlie were the ones who stood up. Charlie’s a guy that’s going to be very, very much missed, and his legacy is going to live on forever with Turning Point and what he’s done with only 31 years on this planet. [It’s] just a really tragic loss for everybody. I know you guys have been feeling it as well. So tonight, since he was the one of the ones that stuck up for the song, let’s play this one for Charlie.”

And HARDY expressed his frustration with the state of our country during his show in Mississippi:

“I also want to bring to light how fragile life is. Obviously yesterday, we saw a very tragic loss, what I consider an extremely tragic loss because we had somebody that was exercising a lot of their human rights, also known as freedom of speech, who got brutally murdered in front of 10,000 people. I think it’s f****** bull****, and I think our country is a f****** mess.

So I wanna thank Charlie Kirk for his service and everything he did as a human being.

Lastly, two years ago, almost to the day, maybe one month shy, I was supposed to play here and I had what most people would call a mental breakdown, which I kind of narrowed down to a little bit of trauma I had to work out from my tour bus accident that myself and a few of our other crew members were in back in 2022 that I had not properly processed, if  you will.

I just wanna thank you guys for your forgiveness, I wanna thank you for coming back. I know that was sh****… but I can promise you I am much better. I am in a completely different place now and I really thank you guys for your patience. I love you all, I love the state of Mississippi and I’m just happy to be back. I’m glad you guys are having fun.”
