The English top-flight’s 20 teams combined to fork out around £3.1bn on new players this summer.

Who spent the most money in the summer transfer window?

Liverpool were the biggest spenders as they splashed out £446m on eight new recruits.

No club in football history have ever spent as much in a single window, with the Reds breaking Chelsea’s previous record they set in 2023 at £434.5m.

Arne Slot‘s side broke the British transfer record twice – first bringing in Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal rising to £116.5m.

And Liverpool then handed over £125m to Newcastle to finally secure the services of Alexander Isak on deadline day.

Other big spenders include Chelsea, who handed over around £285m, while they stand to pocket £354.7m in player sales once add-ons and future fees are taken into account – a record sum for a Premier League team.

Arsenal, meanwhile, paid around £255m on bolstering their squad with Newcastle also hitting the £250m barrier.

But after a whirlwind summer window, which club boasts the highest squad value?

In figures obtained by Transfermarkt, talkSPORT.com has taken a deep dive into what club sits top of the pile.

10. Brighton – £400m

Another summer, another window in which Brighton saw their one of their best players depart with Joao Pedro joining Chelsea for £60m.

They also sold Tariq Lamptey, while they parted ways with Simon Adingara, Valentin Barco and Pervis Estupinan.

But the Seagulls retain a cracking squad, with Kauro Mitoma and Carlos Baleba their joint most valuable players at £34.6m.

9. Aston Villa – £474m

Despite keeping their most valuable player in Morgan Rogers [£47.6m], it was an underwhelming window for Villa.

Deadline day loan signings of Harvey Elliott and Jadon Sancho could prove to be astute pieces of business.

However, club icon Gabby Agbonlahor believes Villa will struggle to secure a top eight spot this season.

“[Victor] Lindelof is good cover, so I think Aston Villa finish top ten this season – I don’t think they finish in European places.”

8. Nottingham Forest – £510m

It was another busy summer for Forest following their return to Europe in 30 years.

Forking out around £205m, the Reds have notably signed Omari Hutchinson, Dan Ndoye, Arnaud Kalimuendo.

They also landed Man City youngster James McAtee after helping England’s Young Lions to European U21 Championship glory.

Crucially, Forest managed to keep Morgan Gibbs-White and star centre-back Murillo after parting ways with Anthony Elanga.

And it’s Murillo who is their most valuable player at £47.6m.

Ten most expensive Premier League signings

For the 2025 summer transfer window (add-ons included)

  1. Alexander Isak – Newcastle to Liverpool – £125m
  2. Florian Wirtz – Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool – £116.5m
  3. Hugo Ekitike – Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool – £79m
  4. Benjamin Sesko – RB Leipzig to Manchester United – £73.7m
  5. Bryan Mbeumo – Brentford to Manchester United – £71m
  6. Nick Woltemade – VfB Stuttgart to Newcastle – £69m
  7. Eberechi Eze – Crystal Palace to Arsenal – £67.5m
  8. Viktor Gyokeres – Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal – £63.7m
  9. Matheus Cunha – Wolves to Manchester United – £62.5m
  10. Joao Pedro – Brighton to Chelsea – £60m

7. Newcastle – £571m

Despite losing Isak, Newcastle enjoyed a fine window – bringing in Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa, Elanga, Jacob Ramsey and Malick Thiaw.

Woltemade arrived from Stuttgart for a club-record £69m, but skipper Bruno Guimaraes remains their most valuable star at £69.3m.

Praising their business – despite being snubbed by multiple players – talkSPORT host Jeff Stelling said: “Look, they missed out on Pedro [to Chelsea].

“They missed out on Bryan Mbeumo and missed out on Benjamin Sesko [both to Manchester United] and they’ve sold Isak, but look at the players they’ve brought in.

“They brought in two strikers for less than the money they got for Isak – Wissa and Woltemade, they’ve also brought in Jacob Ramsey, quality player, Elanga, quality player, Thiaw at the back.

“They’ve got [Aaron] Ramsdale on loan, I think that Newcastle after this transfer window – even without Isak – I think they are stronger than they were before the window.”

6. Manchester United – £648m

United forked out £216m on four new players, with the bulk of their business going on assembling a new-look attacking comprising of Sesko, Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

And it is striker Sesko that is their highest valued player at £60.6m.

But despite being forward-thinking in the window, Stelling is of the option that the Red Devils had the second-worst window in the Premier League.

He said: “The two principal reasons why I think United have had a poor transfer window is that they needed to bring in someone with an engine in that midfield.

“I thought it was absolutely essential and they haven’t done so. Yes, they’ve got Kobbie Mainoo, but he hasn’t got the sort of legs required to drive that midfield forward.

“And, they’ve gone for the cheap goalkeeper option. [Senne] Lammens might turn out to be a fantastic goalkeeper, but it’s a humongous step for him to go from playing for Royal Antwerp in front of 12,00 people in the Belgian league to huge crowds at Old Trafford.”

5. Tottenham Hotspur – £772m

Spurs were able to bolster their squad with brilliant additions following their Europa League triumph last season to end their 17-year trophy drought.

Their most valuable player is one of their new additions, with Xavi Simons worth £60.6m.

The Netherlands international has joined Mohammed Kudus in penning permanent transfers, with Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani brought in on loan.

For Stelling, he believes Thomas Frank‘s side have had the best transfer window out of any Premier League club.

He said: “They’ve lost [Heung-min] Son, that’s pretty much it, [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg left, Mikey Moore’s gone on loan to Rangers, but that’s pretty much it.

“The signings that they’ve brought in, Kudus from West Ham, they paid a lot of money for him [£55m], but I do think he is a good player.

“Xavi Simons I like very much indeed, I think he’s going to be a terrific signing for them, Palhinha, we’ve seen already what a fantastic signing he could be.

“And they brought in Randal Kolo Muani on loan from PSG, now look what I’ve seen from him in the past, I’ll be brutally honest, maybe mainly for the French national side, I haven’t always been impressed, but he certainly has got a pedigree.

“And I just think numerically, they may be down on some other clubs, but I think they brought in quality and I see Spurs having a good season.”

4. Chelsea – £942m

Chelsea have been no stranger in splashing the cash following their takeover in 2022.

In just three years, they have spent nearly £1.5bn, so it’s no surprise they boast one of the most valuable Premier League teams.

And as every fan would expect, it is Cole Palmer who is their most valuable player at £104m.

Despite spending over £200m on the likes of Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, Liam Delap and Jorrel Hato this summer, Palmer remains Chelsea’s most-valuable player

3. Liverpool – £970m

Two of Liverpool’s summer signings have immediately become their most valuable in Wirtz [£121m] and Isak [£104m].

For ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent, he believes it was a 10/10 window for the Merseyside outfit – despite the club missing out on Marc Guehi.

Speaking on talkSPORT Drive, he labelled their business as perfection, while also saying: “It’s a 10/10 [window].

“They’be got two new full-backs [Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong], a centre-half they brought in [Giovanni Leoni.]”

Bent continued: “It’s perfect, listen to who they have brought in – Isak, Wirtz, [Hugo] Ekitike, Kerkez, Frimpong, Leoni.

“I’m giving them a 10/10 – they broke the British record twice!”

Isak is looking to immediately prove his worth following his £125m transfer

2. Manchester City – £1.07bn

The Citizens are Premier League’s most successful team of the last 13 years having won eight titles, and in Erling Haaland they have the most valuable player in the division at £156m.

But fans and pundits were left slightly underwhelmed by their summer business – despite the signings of Tijjani Reijnders and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Speaking to talkSPORT of City’s £175m overhaul, ex-City and England right-back Danny Mills said: “They’re very, very good players.

“But there was a time, what, three or four years ago, where players would probably go to Manchester City for maybe even less money, because they’re thinking, ‘Well, I’m going to win the Champions League, I’m going to win the league, I’m going to win this, I’m going to win that’.

“Now they’re thinking, ‘Well actually, that looks like Liverpool are going to have a bigger chance of winning everything, so if you want to win things, then perhaps I’ll go there’.

“There’s the pull of London as well for Arsenal and we know that it is a factor especially with foreign players that London is a bigger pull than anywhere else in the country, so I think it’s a difficult time for Manchester City.”

1. Arsenal – £1.15billion

Only Real Madrid boast a higher squad value from clubs around the globe than the Gunners.

Star signings such as Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke have only added to the plethora of talent already on their books.

Hale End graduate Bukayo Saka is the club’ s most valuable player at £130m – the second highest estimate in the Premier League.

For talkSPORT presenter Rory Jennings, he believes Mikel Arteta now has no excuses not to deliver the club silverware this season.

He said: “The recruitment has been brilliant, the signing of Eberechi Eze was superb.

“Arsenal are now capable of winning a league, they have at various points been the best team in the league [during last three seasons].

Only Real Madrid boast a more valuable squad than Arsenal and Man City in world football

“And Arsenal Football Club, a club with rich history, rich heritage, aren’t satisfied with coming second best.

“Ultimately, he [Arteta] needs to succeed this year.”

Promoted teams

Unsurprisingly, newly-promoted Leeds [£256.7m], Sunderland [£252.7m] and Burnley [£199m] are valued in the bottom-three.

And the trio will be hoping it’s not a sign of things to come as they look to avoid becoming the third straight set of promoted teams to instantly go back down.

Leeds have the highest valued squad out of the three, but it’s the Whites who Stelling believes have had the worst window out of any club.

Stelling said: “The team who have had the worst window and I apologise for this and the reason is because I can’t get excited over any of their signings is Leeds.

“I don’t know who is going to score the goals for them.

“I can’t get excited that they brought James Justin in. I can’t get excited that they brought Dominic Calvert-Lewin in. I can’t get excited that they brought Noah Okafor in.

“They needed a couple of strikers you can rely on to get goals.

“Calvert Lewin, you can’t rely on his fitness. Okafor didn’t pull up any trees for Milan, seven goals in 39 games.

“[Lukas] Nmecha another one, not a prolific goalscorer. That’s what worries me for Leeds.

“Sean Longstaff will do a good job in the middle of the park I’m sure of that, but I worry for Leeds.”
