Interpolating a beloved M.I.A. vocal sample, Odd Mob and OMNOM flaunt their risk-taking spirit. The post Odd Mob and OMNOM Throw Curveball With Bold New HYPERBEAM Track, “System” appeared first on EDM.

HYPERBEAM, the collaborative alias of Odd Mob and OMNOM, has never been about playing it safe, and their latest single doubles down on that reputation.
Out now via Insomniac Records, “System” pushes the joint project further toward the edge of tech house, twisting an M.I.A. sample into something entirely their own. Following last year’s debut EP The Unexplained, which showcased their club-ready chemistry, “System” reinforces HYPERBEAM’s vision: house music built to catch listeners off guard.
“When we get together, we just bounce ideas off each other really fast,” Odd Mob told EDM.com in an early-2024 interview. “I think just working really fast together is what has glued it all together, I suppose. Just the speed.”
That unpredictability is the duo’s sweet spot. Instead of pulling from the obvious hook in M.I.A.’s ageless 2008 hit “Paper Planes,” they cut deeper, looping the line “poison for the system.” That warped vocal becomes the pulse of the track, building pressure before the drop snaps into a brash and bouncy house groove with bite.
