Notre Dame Fighting Irish List Comedian Shane Gillis On Their Injury Report As “Out” For Tailgating
Huge blow to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team. Isn’t it great that college football is back? It seems like we have to wait so long for it to come back around, only for the season itself to go by in the blink of an eye. Huge blow to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team.
Isn’t it great that college football is back? It seems like we have to wait so long for it to come back around, only for the season itself to go by in the blink of an eye. Maybe that’s because football season is built for rotting away on our couches on the weekends, consuming an inordinate amount of calories, and deleting a concerning amount of beers.
Translation: Time flies when you are having fun.
And speaking of having fun, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish seem to be in good spirits ahead of their highly anticipated matchup with the Miami Hurricanes. The No. 10 ranked Hurricanes will have home field advantage on Sunday night, while the No. 6 ranked Fighting Irish will be down one ATH (athlete) for the contest. That’s a real shame, because you always want to be at full-strength going into the first game of the season.
Unfortunately, the comedian football player wearing No. 00, Shane Gillis, has been ruled out. His injury status on Notre Dame’s injury report reads “tailgating.” Sources have still yet to confirm whether that means he was hurt while tailgating (maybe a Buffalo Bills jumping through tables situation?), or he’ll be unavailable because he’ll be tailgating.
Now before you start second guessing yourself on whether or not that’s real, let me explain the joke.
Earlier this week, Notre Dame, Shane Gillis and Under Armor teamed up to create a “Stay Ready” video before the season gets going. It posed Shane Gillis as a donor of the Notre Dame program (he actually is), and that his donations come with some requests, like:
-Wants to be able to attend practice and have his own whistle
-All-you-can-eat access at Notre Dame team dinners
-Would like to sing the victory march before each team dinner
-Give pre-game speeches
Those were all denied by Notre Dame Head Coach Marcus Freeman, so Shane Gillis pitched one, last-resort idea. What was that, you might be asking? The comedian just wants to put on a helmet and pads to play one singular down of college football:
“You let me play one down. Think about this. You guys have got a big lead. You run a couple of trick plays. All of the sudden, we’ve got the ball back. I’m at every game. I don’t even have to be on the sidelines. I’ll be out in the parking lot, full pads, chin strap buckled. I get the call, you go, ‘Hey, we need you to run one right up the middle.’ Six points, guarantee it.”
