The most Dale Earnhardt way to break up a party, or scare the heck out of his son and his friends, that I’ve ever heard.

Over the years, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has told many stories about his legendary father and some of his own wild antics back in the day, and if you don’t know this about Jr., he was quite a party animal in his younger years. For a while when he was young, Dale Jr. lived in a double-wide trailer on his father’s land in Mooresville, North Carolina, and for as hard as he raced, he partied harder, and there was one point where he was getting so much beer delivered to his house that distributors thought he was selling it.

Jr. recently had YouTube personality and amateur driver Cleetus McFarland as a guest on his Dale Jr. Download podcast, where he asked Jr. about some of the stories he’s told about his dad over the years, including this one about him breaking up a big house party in the late 90’s that is just hilarious:

“Your father flew over your house party with a helicopter to shine a spotlight on the party.”

Jr. laughed as he remembered gathering his friends on a Saturday night, and he would’ve been around 24 or 25 when this happened, and how they were ready to “raise hell” as soon as he got home for the weekend.

Jr. would get home around 8 or 9 after an Xfinity race, which was the perfect time to get the party started (they just weren’t allowed to start without him, obviously):

“It wasn’t so great in the moment. I used to race on Saturdays in the Xfinity series, and I think, it might’ve been like Darlington or Martinsville, it was a close track where Dad would helicopter back-and-forth. And so I ran my race, it wasn’t Martinsville, we didn’t race Xfinity there, so it might’ve been Darlington. I ran my race, and I’d already planned this s***.

I get home from the race around 8 or 9 o’clock, and we would just crank the music and start partying, and everybody would show up. And for whatever reason, it was probably like midnight or something, man, we were right in the middle of it. Probably about 40 or 50 people.”

Cleetus referred to it as Jr.’s “prime” partying years, and Jr. said they were all having fun living their best lives until a helicopter with a big ‘ol spotlight flew over the house, which belonged to Dale Sr.

Jr. says he was “nosing” it around the house just to mess with them… but his friends were afraid they would have to deal with the wrath of the Intimidator, so they took off running:

“He comes, helicopters around the house… he’s not flying it, he’s in the passenger seat. And they’re nosing that thing around the house, and everybody’s parked their cars out in this field next to the house. And he’s flying that thing around, and everybody runs out of the house. We were in the basement, everybody runs out of the basement door and to their cars jumps in their cars.”

Cleetus asked why they were scared, because they really weren’t doing anything wrong and were obviously adults, and Jr. laughed because he could only guess they were scared because they thought Dale was going to come in there and “raise hell” for them partying like that. Jr. said 80% of everyone that was there “hauled a**” out, and his dad loved it and thought it was hilarious.

He said it was “nothing but taillights” out of the driveway, and honestly, they were probably smart for doing so, even though it sounds like Sr. was just messing with them:

“They were like, Dale’s home, they thought he was gonna land and come in there and raise hell or something, I don’t know…. he just flew it around and then he went and landed, but probably 80% of the people hauled a**. It was nothing but taillights out the driveway. He loved it, he thought it was hilarious that he had that kind of control.”

What’s really funny is picturing this whole thing going down as if it was some high school party, when in reality, it was completely harmless and they were all a bunch of grown men running from Dale when he wasn’t even mad… just too funny:

Cleetus called the whole story “the coolest thing I’ve ever heard in my life,” and I have to agree… it just doesn’t get cooler than this:
