Rub a little salt in the wound, eh dad?
NASCAR driver, Connor Zilisch, suffered a nasty fall yesterday afternoon while celebrating the win in Victory Lane. Zilisch took the checkered flag for the Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen and was expected to race in the Cup Series today.
The 19-year old rookie phenom had just won his sixth race of the season, and the seventh of his career, after getting his first win a year ago during his Xfinity Series debut – which ironically, was at Watkins Glen.
He lost his footing while climbing out of the car, and appeared to get his foot caught in his window on the way down. He fell pretty hard and remained pretty motionless as medical crews quickly rushed in to assist him. He was loaded onto a backboard before being taken out of victory lane in an ambulance to the infield care center.
Luckily, it was reported that Zilisch was sitting up in the ambulance.
Before signing off, the CW provided an update and confirmed that Zilisch was speaking to medical personnel in victory lane.
And after being evaluated at the infield care center, Zilisch left the speedway in an ambulance.
JR Motorsports also provided an update on their driver, announcing that he was awake and alert and being transferred to a local hospital.
And Connor’s father, Jim Zilisch, also provided an update, saying that his son is “back to himself” and “not in any danger,” but was being taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
Luckily, it doesn’t look like Connor had to stay at the hospital very long.
The latest update came from the driver himself, who announced that had suffered a broken collarbone but that his CT scans were clear and that he was being released from the hospital:
“Thank you everybody for reaching out today. I’m out of the hospital and getting better already. Thankfully, CT scans for my head are clear, I just have a broken collarbone. Thankful for all the medics for quick attention and grateful it wasn’t any worse.”
Unfortunately, the incident means that Zilisch will be forced to miss tomorrow’s NASCAR Cup Series race. Connor was scheduled to compete in the #87 car for Trackhouse Racing, one of a handful of starts this season before it’s expected that he joins the team full time in the #99 car in 2026, replacing the departing Daniel Suarez.
But apparently there is a silver lining here…
And according to Connor’s dad, Jim Zilisch, the silver lining is that Connor now has a new “most embarrassing moment,” one that doesn’t involve him pooping his own pants.
Jim tweeted out this comical update last night:
OOF… getting roasted by dad while you’re not even out of the hospital yet? Tough scene…
JR Motorsports hasn’t announced how much time, if any, Zilisch will be forced to miss in the Xfinity Series. But because he’s already locked into the playoffs, it seems like a no-brainer to keep him out of the car next week at Daytona, which is the final race before the playoffs start in two weeks.
Just thankful that it wasn’t worse than it was, and hoping that we get to see Connor back in the car sooner rather than later. The post “No Longer His Most Embarrassing Moment” – Connor Zilisch Gets Roasted By His Own Dad After Breaking His Collarbone In Victory Lane first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
