Another year, another soulless Call of Duty game is fast approaching. With the recent announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, I found my nerdy ass watching the trailer because of course I was. And while a lot of what I saw was expected, it was what I heard in the trailer that realy stood out.
With this week being Gamescom out in Germany, many new games are getting their trailer debuts and you bet your ass Call of Duty was there. To mark the coming of Black Ops 7, the trailer is packed with a ton of action and some weird ass acid trip-esque visuals. But what really stood out was what you can hear in the trailer, as probably the worst remix of Metallica‘s classic track “Master of Puppets” plays.
It honestly sounds like some zoomer found the song on their father’s Spotify playlist and thought “yes, I can make this sound like shit.” It sounds like someone stuffed a Bluetooth speaker up something’s ass and proceeded to play “Master of Puppets” at full blast. It basically sucks out all of the power and urgency of the original in service of making sure Activision Blizzard’s fat cats get richer.
Basically, new Call of Duty releases are a train wreck every year, since it almost never comes out without some sort of bugs or other problems that I just don’t want to deal with during my leisure time. But this time around, they opted to desecrate a thrash metal classic when all they needed to do was show us the PEW PEW PEW with the actual “Master of Puppets” track playing. I guarantee the hype would be just as high, if not a little higher, without all the stupid bips and bloops and extra filters layered over top of it.
You can check out the trailer and the abomination of a “Master of Puppets” remix below. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, will be released on November 14 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
