The Waterfront, a popular new series on Netflix, has been billed an the streaming giant’s “answer to Yellowstone,” and also Ozark meets Yellowstone, and while I won’t go as far as to say it’s nearly as good as either of those shows, it’s certainly interesting.
Instead of a powerful ranch family in Montana, you have a powerful North Carolina fishing family, full of shady characters, who are watching their empire crumble in front of their eyes. I won’t get too much into the plot to avoid spoilers, but if you like crime dramas in the same vein as the aforementioned shows, give it a shot. The cast is also relatively unknown… you know, where you kind of recognize some of the faces from a few things but couldn’t name them to save your life… that’s where we’re at.
But much like Yellowstone and Taylor Sheridan’s other smash hit, Landman, The Waterfront’s soundtrack is full of country music and absolutely fantastic. Featuring the likes of Ryan Bingham, Brent Cobb, Chris Stapleton, Stephen Wilson Jr. and more, it’s also has some classic southern rockers like Allman Brothers and Marshall Tucker Band, and well as some modern rock bands that your average country fan may appreciate. As an avid country music fan, Icelandic rock band, Kaleo, is one of my favorites, and blues rocker Gary Clark Jr. is pretty rad too… both are featured here.
