Happy Gilmore 2 is shaping up to be a summer hit.
Back in April of 2024, Adam Sandler revealed that a sequel to the 1990’s classic Happy Gilmore was in the works. Though some were concerned that a sequel would potentially take away from the first film, others have been over the moon thinking about the possibility of seeing everyone’s favorite amateur-professional golfer back on the big screen.
Adam Sandler will reprise his role as Happy, while Christopher McDonald – who was the first person to spill the beans about the sequel – will return as the iconic sports villain Shooter McGavin. Other actors and actresses that were in the original – like Ben Stiller and Julie Bowen – are also set to step back into their Happy Gilmore roles.
And there have already been plenty of cameos confirmed for the film, including Travis Kelce, Eminem, Jack Nicklaus, and sports radio host Dan Patrick – who has been known to drop in for small roles on Adam Sandler projects. It has also been rumored that Tiger Woods will be featured in the film, but that has yet to be confirmed (though a bust of Tiger’s head did appear in the first trailer that was released).
At the very least, other professional golfers such as Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Will Zalatoris, Tony Finau, Keagen Bradley and many others are playing a role in the movie.
Oh, and how could I forget about the legendary golfer and Diet Coke (and cigarette) enthusiast by the name of John Daly. He’ll be in Happy Gilmore 2 as well, and he’ll apparently play somewhat of a bigger role in the film.
Today, Netflix released the final trailer ahead of the film’s July 25 release, and I don’t want to get too excited… but it looks phenomenal. It’d probably be jumping the gun to say that the Sandman did it again, so I won’t say that just yet.
However, all signs are pointing towards this sequel being a worthy follow up to the original that was released in 1996. Just take a look at the newest trailer for yourself and see if you agree:
COME ON WITH IT.
I’m all in on the storyline, the characters, the cameos (was that Post Malone I spotted there for a second?), and most of all, the return of Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore. It looks like a genuinely hilarious redemption/comeback story, and who doesn’t love that? Plus, one could argue that if this one delivers one the laughs, the movie itself could be a bit of a revival for the comedy genre as a whole.
The Happy Gilmore actor also previously added that the losses of Bob Barker (who played himself), Carl Weathers (who played Chubbs), and Joe Flaherty (who played the guy that yelled “jackass”) are irreplaceable heading into the sequel, and that all of those roles would be honored in some way. It’s clear that Sandler and everyone involved are working hard to make a second installment that not only adds to the Gilmore-McGavin universe, but also honors the 90’s classic.
Excuse me while I count down the days until Netflix releases the Happy Gilmore sequel that I had no idea I needed…The post Netflix Drops Final Trailer For ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ & It Looks Like A Certifiable Summer Movie Hit first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
