NASCAR Legend Richard Petty Shares Photo With Morgan Wallen At Cracker Barrel 400: “Only In Nashville”

NASCAR is in Music City.

The Cup Series is underway at the Nashville Superspeedway for the Cracker Barrel 400 today, and just about everybody and their mother is in attendance. You have NASCAR legends, country music stars, and hell, even some of Whiskey Riff’s own are taking in the race (while I’m at home blogging about it… what’s going on here?) Country music star and Nashville native Ernest was named Grand Marshal, and he delivered a rousing command, Chase Rice drove the pace car, I saw Randy Houser was there… if you live in Nashville and you’re not out at the race, what are you even doing with your life?

Plus, 2-time Whiskey Riff Raff podcast guest and “friend of the progrum,” Ryan Blaney has been dominating. We’re early into Stage 3 at the time of this blog so hopefully he can hold on to take home the win.

We got a couple Nashville bars on the hoods, with Tootsie’s sponsoring the #99 car of Daniel Suarez and Chief’s sponsoring the #67 car of Corey Heim.

Morgan Wallen and Ernest had quite the view:

But perhaps the best photo of the night… Morgan Wallen and NASCAR icon, The King himself, Mr. Richard Petty. I mean, say what you want about Morgan Wallen’s music, he’s the biggest thing in country right now. That’s one helluva duo…

Of course, Richard Petty won 200 races, an almost mythical number that still stands untouched, during his legendary career that spanned 3 decades. He took home seven NASCAR Cup championships, a feat matched only by Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson. His 27-win season in 1967, including 10 straight victories, became the stuff of motorsport folklore. And yet, beyond the trophies and titles, it was the man himself who captured the hearts of fans. With his wide-brimmed cowboy hat, dark sunglasses, and easy grin, Richard Petty is a larger-than-life figure, approachable and grounded despite his towering success. He signed every autograph, shook every hand, and always seemed to have time for the people who cheered him on from the grandstands. A class act through and through, and he continues to be an incredible ambassador for the sport.

Morgan Wallen even gives a nod to The King on “I Ain’t Coming Back,” a song featuring Post Malone on his new album, I’m The Problem. In the first line of the chorus, Morgan and Post sing:

“But the night I said, ‘I’m leavin’,’ I turned into Richard Petty
Broke my heart, so I got even in my ’97 Chevy…”
Now I’m walkin’ on this water mixed with Johnnie Walker Black
There’s a lot of reasons I ain’t Jesus, but the main one is that I ain’t comin’ back
Oh no, no, I ain’t comin’ back…”

And that Chevy pullover Morgan has on… TOUGH.

Only in Nashville… indeed.
